Making YouTube video's

When making YouTube Video's, I'm curious if people on the forum film yourself when demonstrating a "How To" video. I am a little camera shy and I feel I might not do the video justice. I have a friend that would be perfect to do it for me. Is this wrong as a marketer?

Nothing wrong with that. You may also do screen recording videos. Try camtasia, Screen flow (mac), or screencast which is the cheapest. Try it out, you will like it.

No, there is absolutely nothing wrong with someone else doing your video for you, so long as they know what purpose you'll be using the video for (which I assume your friend does).

As for being camera shy, that is quite normal... I feel the same way as well so I do PowerPoint presentation type videos.

For a "How To" video, using your friend is a smart call if you think he/she would do a better delivery.

    Regards,
    Daniel

I think the main reason people shy away from doing marketing videos is they are camera shy.You don't have to appear on camera. You can do presentations with powerpoint and record them. If you don't like your voice you can even get computer generated voices with some software. But there are tons and tons of videos where the presenter is not on camera.

It's not wrong as a marketer. If you don't want to do the filming of yourself - then fine. Others may call you lazy, but almost everybody in this field of direct marketing are lazy. That's why they wanted an online business. Cause their lazy. A 9-5 job would require you to crawl and grobble on your knees all day. At minimum wage too.

Just outsource the video creation. Or... be bold and upload your video. By the time you upload video #5, you will start to feel comfortable uploading your videos all the time.

If you're not comfortable on a camera you can definitely have a friend do it for you! And just a little tip incase you decide to try to make a video…simply pretend that you're talking with your best friend in the whole wide world about what ever it is you're talking about and that should help!

I hope that helps and good luck!

film yourself when demonstrating a "How To" video.
    How to what?

If it's something online you can do a screen-capture "over the shoulder" video. Then all you need is your voice.

Whatever gets the job done. If your friend is better on camera use the friend because your presence on camera will make a difference when it comes to the viewer making a purchase decision.

In the meantime, practice making videos yourself until you're comfortable. Really, that's what it all comes down to, being comfortable and confident on camera.

outsourcing is part of the game for time savers. You build a good network of friends in the industry.

You can use inexpensive sites like fiverr. You can easily create a powerpoint presentation and just share your screen while explaining through your powerpoint.

Nothing wrong with that. You do what works.
There are many business owners who do not do their own videos. In fact, many IM product creators hire other people to make their videos.

Outsourcing is great! Let someone else do the things you don't want to do yourself. It saves time and energy and you can focus on what you do best.

If you want to make your own videos but are camerashy, then you need to practise.
Start out by doing an over-the-shoulder video. That way you dont need to show your face.
When I first started I wrote down everything I was going to say. Then I read it out loud to myself until I was comfortable hearing my own voice and I have a flow in my speech.
I started doing animated videos with Moovly. This way I didn't need to speak at all...

I would start with powerpoint and screencapture, then go to over-the-shoulder to finally make a personal video.

After all, watching other people is the most engaging. Humans are social and we seek social interactions. Would you rather look at a powerpoint than a live speaker?

      Good luck with your videos!

There's nothing wrong at all. Even if it's your own ad, it doesn't necessarily mean that you have to do it. Sometimes you need the services of pros to get your video right or to get charismatic acts from those who are very good at it. You can also use services from sites like fiverr.com if you really want to keep your anonymity. Many marketers whose English isn't their first language also use other people for their video tutorials.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this at all, exactly what I did at first. Then when you start realising people like your content, you will get less shy.... I literally just bought my new camera to finally start appearing in my own videos..... 2 years and 11,000 YouTube subscribers later! So don't worry at all!?

The most profitable youtuber is a woman who lives in America and opens kids toys on a daily basis. She shows nothing but her hands. Has a good voice for kids I guess. Made 5 Million in 2014 from memory.

Why would you think it wrong. It is questions like this that really bog people down and prevent them from moving forward.

For online marketing purpose video I think you need not expose yourself in the video. Use Camtasia Studio you can make whiteboard animation and screen shot video with ensuring better quality. Thanks.

Why do you think there is something wrong with someone else doing your "How To" videos for you?

What are you hoping to achieve with the videos? Is it to inform or to build authority, to help you market a how to course etc?

It is not wrong! Although, I encourage you to be on camera and promote yourself instead.
One of the hardest things i've done is being comfortable and being "myself" in front of a camera.

When I feel off on camera, I like to send snapchats to close friends of myself talking as I would on the videos I post. It's a simple yet active refresher or trainer to get you into the mindset of being on camera and published.

As far as "doing the video justice", if the how to's are information you've made than there is no one else to relay it correctly than you.
Don't sell yourself short and let a small easy to overcome fear take that away from you.
I guarantee that you'll surprise yourself tremendously!

    Good luck!

If your friend is happy to do it for you then use your friend. You could also hire somebody from fiverr .com. You just need to submit a script to them. And if you feel a bit less shy you could do it yourself but instead making a video you could do a podcast so your face is hidden. There is nothing wrong with using somebody else for the talking. Best of luck with your video plans. Christina

You don't have to film yourself. Download a program like CamStudio (free) or Camtasia Studio (paid) and record your computer screen. Make sure you have a mic and just explain to people what's going on in your screen. I've done a lot of howto videos where I just share my screen and demonstrate to people how to do something. If you need some examples you can check out my channel here.

Lately I've been mixing it up and doing more on-camera videos. I feel comfortable doing it now but I wasn't in the beginning. Just make videos and eventually you'll get over your fear.

I know exactly how you feel, I found it quite uncomfortable doing videos at first and like others have said here, you do have a few options about how you want to record them (without being on camera yourself).

What I find really helps is writing a video script.

Doesn't have to be as detailed as a film script, just bullet points to jog your memory can be great in making you sound more free flowing and professional.

Sorry but my advice would be to crack on and start doing them yourself!

It's one of those skills which just needs practise.

    Cheers
    Jon

You wanna create videos yourself, people will know you and will be more likely to buy from you, if you will be marketing to them via email, for example.
