Help with conversion needed

Hi all,
My website had been live for a couple of months and after working quite hard on traffic generation I am beginning to see an upturn in traffic. Not massive but enough to encourage me. I am getting about 25-30 visits a day at the moment. My problem is I am not making many sales (I've actually sold about 5 items). More than this is the fact that I have not had a single uptake for my newsletter(out of over 600 visits). I've decided that maybe I need to be a bit more pro-active in trying to get people to sign up. My plan is to have a hover ad when people leave the page. I will also offer a genuine free gift. If anyone would like to take a quick look at my home page (address in my signature) and offer any advice that would be very much appreciated.
The main question I have is does anyone know which is the best hover ad solution to go for. By this I mean does anyone use a hover ad that they're really pleased with,

    One quick hint: in this page for instance, the products are hidden bellow the fold. Change this and you'll see the difference.

    Bring to the front page the free shipping to UK. I know it's there but it's small.

    Get some testimonials and some pictures of pets and owners to first page, at least one picture of you maybe? with a dressed pet.

    The site doesn't look a blog or a shop BUT a mix of both. That can hurt conversions too. But i am sure a picture of you/your team with some dressed pets will help right away.

    You need to test, test test.

    i think the product should come in front because people will want to see the product first then they will see the company detail. just my 2 cent

    have u tried asking your existing customers what and why they bought products from you? Was it the price, the product etc

    What you need todo is narrow down what people like about your website and make that stand out, for example if people are only buying one item maybe its because its got better ranking, better price or better pictures and description.

    Once you have found out why people buy from you and which products, apply the same to the others to update your product range.

    Here are some things that will help:

    1) Add a 1-800 # to the top. That way people can call if they have questions/concerns/etc. It'll improve conversions even if no one calls. Simply having a number available to call makes people feel better about your site and credibility. You can get an inexpensive 1-800 # that redirects to your home or cell phone at Toll Free Numbers, Virtual PBX, Business Phone Service - Virtual Phone System by RingCentral

    2) Add a Hackersafe logo. This really helps with conversions. People still feel uneasy about the safety and security of ordering online. (from asktdavetaylor.com: Over 71% of online shoppers look specifically for third party seals of approval when they visit a website (based on a recent national survey conducted by Consumer Reports). The main benefit of third party seals is that they give instant visual feedback to potential buyers, allowing them to see at a glance whether a website is credible, safe, and trustworthy. This creates a win-win with improved buyer confidence and increased sales.)

    3) Make the free shipping more obvious. Free shipping will win a lot of people over. It usually wins me over

    4) What is your unique selling proposition? Having one of these can really help you out.

    5) What are all the reasons someone should purchase from your site instead of someone else's? What makes yours better? Point out as many benefits as you can on your landing page. During this past week, I ordered 2 different items from 2 different websites. I shopped around a lot, and ended up buying from those 2. Why? Well one of them got me because they had FREE shipping clearly marked in bold letters on the home page, the other was for window treatments and they won me over because they were the only site that mentioned being able to ship in 1 day (other sites may have been able to do the same thing, but since they never mentioned it, I didn't know, and I went with this particular site)

    6) Have a bold guarantee, such as a 200% price match guarantee, or a guarantee that it ships in 1 day or it's free, etc.

      Thanks guys some really good stuff there. I knew my landing(home) page needed work and you've shown me some good directions to go in.

      What about my idea of a hover ad to try and capture emails as I think my current way is too insignificant. Also maybe offer a free gift and "VIP" membership ?

        I've made some changes to the home page. Is this the kind of thing you mean ?
        If so then would you suggest I order some graphics to make it a little more eye-catching ?

        I'm still unsure about the hover ad. I'd like to make tje newsletter opt-in form more appealing but don't want to pee potential customers off as I know that a lot of people don't like pop-ups of any kind,

    The sidebar at left got really weird (larger) with last update, and the home page font got real big too.

    Using latest version of Firefox in WinVista.
