What is an affiliate program?

I am just learning the concept of digital marketing and came across this term, and does this divide into commision and non-commisioned types?

    Typically an affiliate program is simply a referral system.

    Therefore, if you're promoting something as an affiliate you need to send traffic/visitors to someone else's product page (or sometimes any other part of their website) and you earn a commission should a sale occur as a result of your referrals.

    The closest thing to a "non-commissioned" affiliate program is CPA marketing, where you get paid for sending traffic that takes an action that is not necessarily a sale in itself (such as signing up for a free trial). Of course, even getting paid for generating a lead is still technically a commission.

    For all practical intents and purposes, most affiliate programs are commission based referral systems.

    An affiliate program is a system whereby a product vendor offers a joint venture for partners who will be willing to promote the product for a commission.

    An affiliate is the person or company who signs up with this affiliate program and promotes the product or service in behalf of the product owner. When a sale is made from the affiliate's promotion, the affiliate gets a percentage commission from the sale. For clickbank affiliate products, affiliates can earn as high as 75% commission rate per sale.
