Do you have success with article marketing without EzineArticles.com?

Hi All,

I know article marketing is a great way to drive traffic to my site.

My question is this.

Why EzineArticle?

I've heard two sides.

Pro: EzineArticles.com gets tons of traffic and has a consistent page rank of 6.

Con: (not my words but statements I've read summed up) I'm not going to build content for another website.

My thoughts are this: Yes, ezinearticles does get tons of traffic and does have a page rank of 6 however my article on ezinearticles has no actual page rank so it's not like I have a back link from a pr 6 page. I have a backlink from a pr 0 page and the chance that someone visiting ezinearticles.com will search my keywords and visit my site. I understand this is probably a good thing because the more pages with them the more traffic I might get.

I notice some Warriors have 2,000, 5,000 or more articles with EA.

I just wonder to myself what if the article author set up his own site with his own thousands of articles on it. Do this with another host and have full control of your resource box.

The first answer I hear is put some on EA and others elsewhere.

Question: Have any of you Warriors skipped EA and only published to your own sites?

How has it worked for you?

George Wright

I started submitting to article directories about 3 months back. I used to just part content on my own site and I can tell you that there is a dramatic improvement in overall exposure and visitors to my site as a result of submitting to article directories.

      Hi George,

I have over 200 niche sites loaded with articles but until I submit articles to EzineArticles it's a trickle of traffic. It kinda sucks but just the way it is for most all my sites. There are many other ways to build back links to sites for sure beyond article submission.

Some sites I've never even submitted a single article because of my time and never built any back links at all and they get a very small amount of traffic simply from on site SEO but nothing to brag about.

      Cheers,
      Dean

I believe that posting thousands of articles to your own site is a lot similar to owning your own high-traffic forum.

        Anyways....

The other pro to Ezine Articles articles is that they syndicate your content and a lot of other sites use that content for ad sense sites, which means you're getting additional exposure in addition to the people who go to Ezine articles and read or from organic traffic. (page rank 6 site can reach high serps pretty easy)

But you raise a good point, why would people want to build content on another site that they don't own when theoretically the articles that they submit to Ezine articles can also reach the search engines from their own sites or blogs???

I haven't personally restricted my article marketing to my own sites or blogs, but I also haven't restricted my article submissions only to Ezine Articles but also Web 2.0 sites.

I view it as piggy-backing EZA's ability to get high SERPs. If I write a good article and post it at EZA, it has a much better shot at being found on Google organically than if it sits on one of my sites. Then it's just a matter of maximizing CTR so a lot of readers get to my site from there. And that's really why I believe article marketing works so well. It's that you end up with highly interested visitors who are oftentimes pre-sold on your authority level. A much higher percentage of them seem ready to buy something if you give them more reasons on your site that relate to the article that brought them there in the first place. It's better than just "targeted" traffic (which is good, don't get me wrong). It's what I think of as "pre-sold targeted" traffic (the best there is). "Pre-sold" can mean ready to buy something or ready to believe you know what you're talking about because you gave them solid, useful info in the article they originally read.

If I had a retail store in a mall, let's say, well I'm gonna get lots of foot traffic, but many will be apathetic window shoppers. That's what I liken SE traffic that just clicks a link from an organic search to. They see your store sign, so to speak, and wander in to have a look around. Contrast that with having a well-dressed, eloquent salesperson out in front of your mall store who convinces some of those passersby to come in for specific reasons. Some of them will pass and say it's not what they're looking for today. Fair enough. But there will be some who didn't realize you sold a certain product and they are actually very interested in it. And some who knew you sold that product, but didn't realize you were offering something else that adds value. You just gained a hot prospect and the quality of your foot traffic has increased significantly. That's how I view my articles at EZA (and to a lesser extent other directories).

Once you figure out how to write articles that consistently pull in a 20% or better CTR, you start to get really excited about every article you write. It's harder (in my experience, which is definitely not as extensive as many others here) to improve site conversion rates, but when you combine both (article CTR + site conversions), you can't write enough articles.

I'm rambling, but I'll finish with a final point that bears mentioning. If you write a lot of articles for one site, I've learned that a law of diminishing returns kicks in. If I get more than a few articles approved on any given day with links to the site in question, I don't get a proportionately higher traffic flow. In other words, if submitting 1 article gets me X amount of traffic, I do not get 5X if I submit 5 articles at the same time... if they all get approved at the same time (which is almost always what happens). I might get 3X. I've played around with this, and at least from my limited experience, 3 articles per day is the "golden" number. I might do 4, but 5 or more becomes less and less worth the time involved writing and submitting them.

    Sorry I rambled so much.

    John

I should point out that of the various article directories I submit articles to, EZA gives me some of the lowest click-throughs. Don't know why but there it is.

Which directories would you recommend for better click-throughs?

Well ezinearticles is no doubt established themselves as brand and now almost every professional webmaster is getting the benefit from it and this is bound to happen

Now their Alexa Ranking is 302 with PR 6. So you can imagine how they are important. But I want to know few more these kind of websites.

I use Ezine Articles to mainly build up some Link Strength for my Blogs, Squidoos, and Websites.

When it comes to a Link to a Landing Page... it's almost a 1% conversion rate, but again... it's mainly used for Link Strength for me.

I have been doing a little trick to get more hits to the articles by submitting on a Mid Wednesday Afternoon. Usually by Friday morning I get the email saying it will be on Home Page later on in the day.... that means that for the Weekend.... you get to be on the Home Page.

One Article I had that was on a weekend had almost 6,000 views... in only 2 days time.. 2 1/2 counting the friday.

Try it , it might work.

I have one site online that I never wrote one article to promote at EZA or
anywhere, but have articles on the site.

The traffic I get is pitiful. This site has been around for years and still
      nothing.

Sites that I just put up, once submitting to EZA, get tons of traffic.

There is no question that nothing beats submitting articles to sites with
high PR. Your own site isn't going to get it done unless you promote the heck
      out of the site itself.

At least that has been my experience.
