Giving internet marketing one more shot, asking for help this time...

Hello, I have been trying to build something successful online for about ten years now. I've made all of the classic mistakes, including working on too many projects at the same time, spending too much time trying to read about the secrets of success instead of working on my own success, not putting in enough hours, picking niches I have absoultely no interest in and lack of desire to work on, and various other mistakes. I have tried Amazon affiliate marketing sites, directory sites, adult sites, and ecommerce sites all with lmited or no success. The most success I have had was developing my own electronic cigarette brand, and I was able to get monthly sales around 1,000.00 a month before my site was hacked, my site backup was corrupted, and the competition in that niche was so saturated that I lost my drive to try to rebuild it.

I want to give this one more try because I believe I can do it, but I am reaching out for some direction and some help from those with more experience and more experience building success. My goal is to build a site that with hard work, I can eventually make 100k a year with. Is that even a realistic goal? Or will I have to work on 10 or 100 sites each generating smaller amounts of revenue?

I have been paying for over 50 domains for the last few years, and it's time to stop wasting money on these things that aren't getting me anywhere and focus. I told myself I'll give it one more good shot before giving up on this altogether.

I've abandoned most of my projects now, and will be completely starting over. The only site I have left is an erotica site, that generates around 500 hits a month, without me doing any promotion or work on it in the last year or so. Would that be something that I should focus on? Or should I drop that one too and go a different route.

My only other idea at the moment is to go back to ecommerce and attempt to find another product to sell that I at least have some interest in, but it's been difficult finding anything at all with a profit margin that doesn't have a staturated market. I don't even know where to begin.

Here is hoping someone can help point me in the right direction.

If you use the search tab up the top left use the key word "I give up" there you will find some very good answers to your question

Your goal is realistic, with 1 site and the first site you build is likely not going to happen.. It will likely take a fair bit of work, some failures as well..

It sounds like you have an idea of the path you want to take (unless I misread), you want to build sites (I'm guessing authorative sites) and make money off of them..

Why not just start building websites, just keep adding more and more content.. that's probably the best way to start, just keep taking action.. it will likely take several attempts before you find something really good, but the experience and small successes should help.

You do not say much about your site "Erotica". But you could start from there.

      Add content and...

Maybe sell an ebook about sex or dating?
Put affiliate links to webcam sites?
Put affiliate links to dating sites?
Talk about exotic (or sexotic? ) travels and place affiliate hotel booking links?
      Place affiliate links to sexshops?
      Sell sextoys?

      This could be a beginning...

Thank you Chris, you didn't misread. I do enjoy writing and creating content and creating sites the most.

Thank you Sven, those are some great ideas, I've never thought of the exotic location aspect. The site is just basically a site where users write stories and I've written a bunch of content myself. I've tried using webcam links and such, but I haven't truley kept taking action on the site like I should because I was unsure of it's potential.

Sounds like you jumping around too much. Too many things to do can cause overwhelm. What you need to do is focus more.

Go through the domains you have and select 1 to 3 that you can work on. Focus on 1, then go to 2, etc.

All depends how you working also. Remember there is only so much time in the day. To know how much your niche is worth, you need to do keyword research. That will tell you best about your target market.

If your best success has been from the electronic ciggs, then focus on that.

Get yourself the book "Think and Grow Rich". Read the chapter on decision.
Tomorrow read it again. And the day after, ... read it for 30 days or even longer.

If you want to build your own business you can't let random people on a forum tell you what you should do.
It's YOUR business, start to treat it as a business and act as your own CEO. Make decisions, own them, make mistakes, get back up again and try a different approach.

Success only comes after trying over and over again. When Edison invented the light bulb he didn't quit. He didn't ask his friends or strangers on the street what he should do, and he didn't go and invented something else either. He kept at it, doing something different every time and eventually he made it.

Nobody ever was successful on their first try.

At this point, I would say that the most important thing you can do is figure out what viable business model you're willing to pursue.

This should be something you can see yourself working on for the long-term.

Take at least a month to do your research and figure out what business you're willing to make sacrifices for.

That might be affiliate marketing, Kindle publishing, creating and selling your own product, consultation, web design, and the list goes on.

There are a lot of legitimate businesses you can build but the thing is, you only need to get good at ONE.

How long will it take you to get good at it?

Who knows, some people take a few years while others take a few months.

But you need to take a long-term approach to this.

I wish you the best in whatever venture you pursue, and just remember this:

Success ultimately comes from doing the right things for a long enough period of time.

    Regards,
    Daniel

Success in the online space, like any other industry, is 90% attitude and about 10% aptitude. By saying that you'll "try" or that you'll "give it one more shot" you're already subconsciously pre-disposing yourself to failure. You're already preparing yourself for the failure that you're expecting.

If you really want this to work, you need to be willing to "do" and not "try". You need to do whatever it takes. Any of the ideas you listed will work. Focus, believe, and do it.
