How do I build a good email list?

To me, "good" means one that will generate a lot of people opening my message regularly.

I've made a living on the web, but not in IM via email lists. I want to learn how to do it so I can pass that knowledge on to my clients.

If you have built a successful list, would you please give us a few tips about how and where to start? Is there any software worth a try? Which courses or eBooks do you recommend?

How many people do we need on a list to make a living?

    You'll get a better open rate if you provide good quality content on a regular basis. I have to admit, knowing how to write good subject lines helps too.

    The best education is simply following the emails you get from a person that has captured your trust. Look at what they do and say... and how they promote their products.
