I just happened across this video on Tony Robbins site today.
Frank and John visit with him in San Diego and discuss the problem of marketers who buy IM products and don't ever take action. I found this to be a superb video and Tony's recipe for solving this problem is one worth seeing (and replaying again). Interview with Frank Kern and John Reese _____ Bruce |

Yes, I watched that video yesterday. I found it quite interesting. I know some people are annoyed by Tony Robbins, but if you aren't I think it's worth it to take some time and watch this.

It was lame and the 'king on the throne' talking to the minions on the couch aspect was not lost on me.
They are all lovely guys but Frank lost his charisma in this one and John looks stressed. They are fame chasing? |

(Mo' money?) I agree with what you say about John. What's funny is that I made a comment on Tony's blog, about how Reese should really learn to smile more often and, gasp!, they didn't publish it. I guess it would hurt John's feeling or something, or "negative" comments aren't allowed on "leadership" blogs, lol. Oh well, it's a great vid. Marc

Good video.
I think some people are turned off by Tony Robbins without having really listened to his stuff. I used to be. But the guy has become pretty expert at understanding the psychological aspects of drive and success - and failure. That 4-box thing, "potential >> action >> results >> beliefs", which is one of his central 'themes', is right on the money. Mark |

Well, wasn't this supposed to be an interview? I mean, Robbins is great at some things but as an interviewer he kind of sucks since he talks over 90% of the time. :-) A good interviewer should let his guests talk a bit more don't you think?

Solid video. There is good content in here.
I'm not sure why people always look for the negative. If you honestly didn't get anything valuable out this video it says more about yourself (and probably your business success) than it does about the video. Daniel |

I don't quite understand some of the criticisms here - Frank and John went to Robbins, not the other way around. They are interviewing him.
Can always take nuggets of knowledge from Anthony Robbins - and as many of us know, one simple distinction can trigger a breakthrough. When and from where will that simple distinction come? |

Some could say the same thing about you James. Sorry, but your post comes across very badly almost to the point of jealousy.
I think the problem that they tried to tackle is extremely important. It is the only thing that keeps people from succeeding. It isn't necessarily about selling more stuff to anyone. They tapped into a resource that is known throughout the world for helping others break through those barriers, Tony Robbins. Besides, why does anyone have to be charismatic in every video in order to get the point across? |

That's a great video for any internet marketer.
Watch closely and there's some stealth tips about writing sales copy buried in Tony's Red Bull fueled rants. The whole lesson of the vid is about developing certainty. In terms of a laser-focus for when you're marketing to people, it's a very useful tool. You want to give folk as much certainty as possible. And not just through testimonials and proof elements... In your sales copy... you can hint at... gently remind... people about their past peak performances. About a time in their past when they took action and it worked out great. Even the biggest "downer" in the world has one time in their life when things worked out well. It's just one way to ease folk into that peak "action-ready" state Tony talks about. As an aside... I always remember reading that for years and years when he had to make an important shot for the Bulls... Michael Jordan would think back to when he swished the game winner for the Tar Heels in the 1981 NCAA championship. All that hocus pocus seemed to work for Mike. |

What gives me pause is that Kern and Reese went to Tony Robbins looking for answers not on 'how to sell more' but for answers on 'how to help more people take what we sell and use it'.
I try to keep track of a few of who I consider to be 'reputable' marketers. A recurring theme among many of them is that so few people actually put to use the information that they've paid for. It's impressive to me that there are some people out there who actually want to do good for others - yes, they may charge for what they know but they also want people to take what they learn and make their lives better. |

I’m not even a big fan of Robbins, or Reese or Kern…but my instinct just told me if all three are together I might get a good idea or two. I wasn’t really focusing on how they were sitting on the couch or Tony’s ‘power’ positioning – I just wanted to hear his ideas. Kern (whose wardrobe stylist must have been on vacation) was admittedly quiet, (I would be too) but I thought Reese added to the dialogue. But it was Tony being interviewed, not the other way around, anyway. I remember Dan Kennedy, who shared the stage with TR for years on the Peter Lowe rallies, often implying that Tony’s ego was not pretty. So do you get to Robbins level being a wallflower? Anyway, I still feel this was one of the best videos I’ve seen in awhile. Very concise and specifically addressing a question asked, not wandering all over the place….if it was posted before, I wasn’t aware of it. James, I’ve been meaning to send you a note anyway. Your advice earlier this year to unsubscribe emails of marketers who never send anything of value/content has been one of the best productivity tools I’ve learned this year – bar none. Thank you.

Great video and content. I think the basketball free throw
study Tony referred to was also in The New Psycho-Cybernetics book. Interestingly as a teenager I did realize that my free throws improved when I imagined them being successful while attempting the shots. So I know this 'trick' works. -Ray Edwards |

I read Robbins first book at the start of this year and read some of his larger Personal power book.
I've lately been reading about NLP, Milton Erickson therapy and Robbins work is based on those things. In fact his interview is very similar to description of an NLP therapy session. For instance Robbins asks Reese what it was like to make a million in a day - what that meant to them - by talking about that he makes him feel some of that again. That is what NLP therapiests do - bring up good feelings and then move anchors of bad experiences. You see this in action where he gets them to stand up and point further - it is something akin to a hypnosos reframing/reanchoring technique. You may not believe in hypnosis so call it what you want. But if you read Kern's course you can see how he got a lot of ideas by reading/following Robbins about pyschology, selling etc. And now I'm starting to see how Robbins got his ideas from the NLP movement in the 1970's. It's all really fascinating stuff. But you are actually watching Robbins do a coaching session with them. This is what I'm sure some famous people pay him big bucks for. I'm sure they left here inspired - not just you from watching - but them too. Even here it is interesting ot see how people respond in their posts - some people are helped by the message this video presents and inspired by it - while a few do not hear the message and decide to judge them by body posture and so forth - either because the message bores them, they think they don't need it, or they don't like them due to jeolousy or who knows what. When I frist watched it I focused on the content of what they are saying. Then after reading I here I watched the video itself, how they filmed it, how they are sitting and all that and then thinking about the NLP stuff and Robbins- how he interacts with them. |

The content and concepts are solid, but the book is just... well, it buries you in terminology and other big, "professional" sounding words that are really, well, unnecessary. Hell, maybe I could turn it into a product. ... Back on topic, this interview with Tony Robbins is definitely right on the money. Your beliefs determine everything in your life. Sure, there are setbacks, but you should EXPECT setbacks. It's how you react to your circumstances that dictates your future. If you feel like a failure, every time you fail you're going to go "see, I told you so. I told you I would fail. I'm just a failure, anyway. What's the use?" But if you KNOW you can be successful (and ANYONE can, we ALL have the same amount of potential), then each "failure" is just a learning experience. Every "failure" brings you one step closer to your goal. One step closer to what "success" means to you. Just like failure, success, too, is relative to your perspective. This is the way it works, and the way it always will work. Persistence is key in any endeavor. It can be hard to come to terms with this, especially when you're first starting out, but when you're determined to push passed those barriers (that you set on yourself) you will be amazed at the results. Like they say, the "brick walls" in life are NOT there to keep us out. They exist to keep out those who don't want it bad enough. If you want it bad enough, you will scale that wall as many times as it takes to get over the top.

I guess I think it's an interview of John and Frank because it's on Tony's site and it says an interview with John and Frank. Plus, Tony asks the questions and is in control of the conversation. It's obvious to me he is the interviewer, not the other way around. Anyways, to me it was a good video, I would just have liked to hear more from Frank and John.

Really not much of an "interview" but good information that Tony has said a million times before. I think he neglected to use John and especially Frank in a way the could have made this video outstanding.

Thanks for posting this vid. That was very motivational!
I pretty much am a "go getter" but I do need to work on the whole aspect of "seeing" myself successful instead of hoping and wondering if I'll get there one day. This is a great video to watch over and over again...especially on those $0.00 days! lol |

Who cares if you "like" someone or not. That has nothing to do with a process that works or not.
Is it a fact that Tony, John, and Frank started out in a similar place as a lot of other folks here? If so, then is it true that they did something that changed their situation from broke to millionaires? When they say that the difference is the mindset that they chose, do you believe them? If you could answer yes to those questions, then why worry about liking someone or their personalities? Take the information and do something with it. Many years ago I had a mailman I couldn't stand but that didn't stop me from reading my mail. Matt |

I thought it was a fantastic video. Frank and John wisely took the Rock's advice to know their role and shut their mouths. The only thing that Tony doesn't say about his brilliant "circle of success" is that you can actually adjust ANY of the variables and it will affect all of them.
So you don't have to start with beliefs. If you take massive action, in spite of having no belief, you will still get massive results which will feed back into your beliefs. The thing is a circle and you can enter it at any point. Great video. 20+ years later I still recommend "Unlimited Power" to anyone struggling to find success. |

If it wasnt so staged and obviously fake it would be interesting. It's the same validation mantra repeated for the nth-million time. Nothing to add to me, but if you guys think it helps thats great.

Bruce, I was thinking the same thing about Frank and John shutting up and giving the floor to Tony... as they should.
And like you said, Tony was really on point with a lot of his observations and advice. It was the best "content" IM video I've seen in a long time. |

This is a awakening video for many. To realize what is holding them back from making something.

BTW - this is what NLP style therapy looks like. This is a vietnam veteran with traumatic flashbacks.
The idea is to bring up memories - the way you think of things - and create new anchors with positive thoughts. Robbins did a bit of this in the interview by asking them to recall how it felt to make their first money in IM. And Kern is using NLP style presuppositions in all of his videos. But NLP came out of therapies like this. Robbins work is based on this NLP stuff. Watch this guy analyze this Kern video: He has a part two here: http://nocatchim.com/frank-kern-nlp-part-2/ |

I found the part with Tony interesting.Nothing new.
What causes me concern is John Reese. When Tony had him recall the Million Dollar day if he showed any excitement at all I sure missed it. If I had half his cash I'd have a monster shyte eatin' doobie smilin' grin from ear to ear like Sir Cheech of Chong. Just MHO so, rip if you must. YOU asked. |

Seriously, everyone should be eating this stuff up...I have done this twice in my life where I've written down firm sets of goals and spent time everyday visualizing those goals - to the point of being obsessed over them. These were lifestyle, personal development and business/financial goals. In both cases every one of these goals has come true.
Further I coach dozens of people each week and I constantly am amazed at the types of things that will hold people back. I'm not trying to say that to be a smart ass...it's just that some of the things I hear stopping progress I would look at as a tiny obstacle (I started from scratch too) and get past it with hardly a thought. It's only when I see people who create all kinds of obstacles - obstacles that in other cases would never stop someone from succeeding do I really see the truth in what Tony, John and Frank are talking about. BTW - who gives a crap about what these guys look like, act like or respond like in this video. IF that's all you took out of this video then you may as well move on and do something else in your life - you won't succeed running your own business. Jeff |
