Is It Wise To Give Vendors My Affiliate Website?

Hello,

I use article marketing to generate traffic to my websites. I syndicate my articles online and so I get traffic from these related websites to my own site. On my site, I then let the visitors sign up to my newsletter and then promote products to them via email.

Before I pick a product for promotion, I always contact the vendor first and ask him/her for review copy. They usually give me a review copy right away.

However, one vendor just asked me what my website is that I will promote the product through and what my affiliate ID is. I just wanted to ask you if you think it is a wise idea to give the vendor my affiliate ID and website address.

I am asking because I am a little paranoid when it comes to revealing niches I am active in to anyone. I know that if I share one of my sites, it could potentially lead to all of my sites being discovered ("resourceful" IT specialists would find it out) and therefore the person searching could exploit my strategies and mirror them, which is what I would not want.

I think it would be reasonable for a vendor to ask to see an issue of your newsletter and to know the number of subscribers you have in the relevant product niche, but I don't know why they'd require your affiliate ID. Nor why you should provide it.

As far as your website is concerned, I see no reason to mention it. Your method of lead capture is up to you.

I see no reason to ever provide anything to vendors regarding your traffic sources or specific marketing tactics. Usually, it's far less costly to just buy your own copy rather than exchange your promotion methods for a "review" copy.

I didn't see any point on why you have to give your affiliate ID.

You have to secure your account. You cannot trust easily especially when it comes to online marketing.
