Like her or not, Leslie Fountain gave her all to her F.I.B. forum, trying to steer people away from online scams.

Leslie contracted H1N1 flu, and passed away from complications last night.

While I never met Leslie in person, she & I worked together on a number of projects over the years.

My thoughts & prayers to MaaMaw and her family.

Pete

Wow -- that's shocking. Her board was one of the first I stumbled on in the late 1990's (99?). Rest in peace, MaaMaw.

I too was visiting the forum regularly a few years ago and learned a lot from people there.

If my memory serves me correctly, she has some beautiful children - I saw some pics when she posted there.

MaaMaw will be deeply missed and celebrated by those who loves her.

    What terrible news.

The FIB forum was probably the very first forum I ever posted on when I entered IM years ago

I had a lot of respect for Leslie she ran a good forum with a lot of very interesting characters there. Another sad loss to the IM world.

Totally shocked. I visited her site a few times when I was starting out, and she sure was a straight talker.

My thoughts are with her family also.

        What a terrible loss!

I think it was Harvey Segal who first told me about FIB. I haven't been there for a while, other than to lurk, but it was (and is) a good forum, and MaaMaw was a great lady.

I hope her legacy can live on somehow.

          Pete,

Thank you very much for letting us know this sad news.

Lesley had an abundance of spunk and integrity. I hope her site is able to stay up, as her anti-scam tirades are truly one of a kind.

Indeed. Her writing was so engaging. For those who didn't know her, let me give you just a quick sample. I think this is something she wrote yeeaaars ago, but it's the first thing I pulled off her site:

"I'd love to have my own internet business
but I don't know HTML from garlic bread!"

            Not a problem.... honest!

As long as your I.Q. is fair-to-middlin' and you're not afraid of your mouse, you should be perfectly capable of learning everything you need to know to make money on the internet....

A little money or a bushel of money....
It all depends on how serious you are and how much time and energy you can spare.

I think most of us have heard about "cashing in on the internet revolution" and how the internet is cranking out "instant millionaires" and how you can "make money while you sleep".... and of course that's pure poppycock.

            Well.... almost.

It's true you can make money while you sleep.... (last Monday morning, f'rinstance, I woke up $180 richer than when I went to bed).... but don't expect to make money while you sleep unless you work your hiney off while you're awake.

There's no magic about the internet, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It's nothing like when the Bluebird of Happiness poops money into your purse (or so I hear)...

That snippet came from How To Start an Internet Business If You Don't Know HTML from Garlic Bread

            Yup, she had a one-of-a-kind, warm-hearted style.

            Cheers,
            Becky

I'm still in shock after hearing the news of MaaMaw's death. It's just too cruel.

Like Becky, I loved the style of writing that set Lesley apart from many others - here she is answering criticism from a contributor to her board -

"I'm not "sensitive" when people come in and ask questions, and I'm not the least bit offended when people express skepticism without flinging false accusations around like so much doodoo.

But when you blow in here and say, "All this anti-scam BS and here is ANOTHER scam within the scam. What a biiiig surprise..." it's downright silly to expect warm fuzzies in return. "

She kept a lot of people on the straight and narrow and was prepared to share her own financial woes when she was caught by scams so that others could avoid being taken for a financial ride.

I hope that her memory is never allowed to fade in this fast-moving internet era.

        What a shame!

Many years ago when I started I used to her board. After I started having successs I used to try to get her to spend less time on her board so that she would start having more success.

But she was 100% loyal to her board and her members.

She worked very hard so support her family.

RIP and condolences to her family.
