If you haven't yet made money online, read this.

Over the past few years, one common thread I see is that people have yet to make any money online.

They buy course after course.... but when it comes to successfully implementing it, 0 income is created.

Permit me to suggest, often its not about the course itself.

I think bunches of folk buy WSOs like bunches of folk buy dieting/weight loss thingees. It's a retail high. They think, I'm *going* to lose weight, sometime in the future, and when I finally decide to do so... this product will be waiting for me!

Personally, I don't see this as a bad thing because fact is....

Nobody can make you *ready* except yourself.

Just like nobody can make you lose weight except yourself.

You have to turn the key in your mind that you *will*:

Here's one way that will help.

1.) Research first to see what kind of money making appeals to you (for example, I hate phones. You could give me a Make $39476334578 With Every Phonecall! product and guaranteed... I will not make a dime. It's just not me (and that's okay!).

2.) Find the trusted warriors who have already MADE money in the way you want. Affiliate marketing, product creation, etc.etc.etc. How?

Go to the search function on this forum.

Warrior Forum - The #1 Digital Marketing Forum & Marketplace - Search Forums

Limit your search for the none-special offer forums (aka, Main Internet Marketing Discussion Forum). Search for your keyword.

Go thru the responses. Look how long each member has BEEN a member, how many posts they've shared, etc.

Chances are, folks with lots of posts know what they're doing. Look at their signature. See if you can opt into their list.

3.) Invest in products by product creators who know what they're doing. Get on their list that way as well. Reach out to them and thank them for their content (this is called, building a network).

4.) Follow people you find to be smart on Facebook. There are bleeploads of:

Marketing groups
Instagram groups
Offline groups
Mobile groups
Moose groups (okay that's my hobby)
etc.

online - you can get free insights and resources there as well.

5.) Give yourself a few hours or days for the above. It will give you a sense for what types of money making will appeal to you.

And here now is the MOST important thingee....

Give yourself permission to *try*.

See, that's what stops so many people in their tracks.

They SAY they want to make money online (or they SAY they want to lose weight)...

... but when push comes to shove, they're scared to take that first step.

And honestly, that's okay.

When you're ready to turn the key in your mind....

... you will....

... and not one moment before.

Buying WSOs etc. is a way to gain a retail high and feel good about yourself and your future efforts.

... just like buying a gym membership does the same thing.

You need to internalize just what IS stopping you from achieving your goals.....

And when you do..... and take steps to overcome it...

... THAT is when you'll be in the position to finally see success.

Making money online is all about finding a very concrete way of making few dollars online and then multiplying it! The best advice for someone who hasn't made significant amount of money online is to research 4-5 ways of making money and then decide which one you really like and go for it! Work, complete things every week, be persistent and multiply! That's it!

The WSO or plan you read about may give you an idea of how to make money online.

However, you will have to figure out how to make it work for yourself. It will take adjustment, trial and error. You probably aren't in the exact situation the person sharing the method was in that made them successful with it, so you'll have to learn what's missing and what to add for your version.

You can read about the exercise, or the kung fu move, or the way to light a scene. But when it comes time for you to actually do the thing, you'll learn there's a little more to it than that.

The map is not the territory.

The only way out is through.

Very nice share for the newbies, Barb.

I've got another one, it's an analogy Frank Kern gave many years back...

There's a guy who says he wants to be a boxer but the moment he gets hit in sparring he says, "I don't wanna be a boxer anymore!"

The truth of the matter is that building any business (online or offline) requires some risk and newbies would be wise to swallow this truth.

    Very well said.

I see many internet marketing newbies who give it a try for a while, but eventually give up.

I've seen it happen in "blogging about blogging" community many times.

Anyway, after reading your post, this is the first thing that popped into my head:

Maybe that's because I'm a little too excited about BatmanVSuperman

Yep, I have seen getting that "retail high" of purchasing WSOs and other make money Products extremely damaging to many people. In fact I would go far as to say it is an epidemic of sorts in the Online Marketing Community.

Of course there are a subset of Marketers who do buy a lot of Products with true purpose. I know I still occasionally buy products myself. But it is only to enhance what Iam currently doing in a prodcutive way.

And there is nothing wrong with that and in fact I encourage it if it is done with a focused intent.

But too many people buy a Facebook Course one week then the next week buy a Bing Course and then in successive weeks by an Fiverr Course and Instagram Program.

People really find an adrenaline rush with this and it is totally destructive in every way

Yeah, definitely agree with many of the posts here. Buying products left and right to satisfy some perceived "need" isn't the way to go. You have to come up with a well thought out strategy and have the discipline to stick to it, and be aware that the going is gonna get tough at times.

Newbies would likely do well to try to learn a concrete skill, like programming or content writing, and then market their services. This could possibly give them a more stable income stream, while they begin to pursue affiliate marketing and creating their own products.

  • Great post. One main distraction I find is the good is mixed in with the multitude of bad information. A newbie can easily get lost, get frustrated and quit when all they face are up sells, up sells and more up sells. If there is information to be shared, give enough to help someone out to the next level where they have a footing to expand. I'm not saying to give free information at all times, simply give some information and if there's an upsell, make sure that its correct and workable content.

First comment, good advice but newbies don't heed good advice. But thanks for the positive encouragement.

The proof that noobs don't lsten can be found within this thread, those successful Warriors who readily admit they went down the shiny object/WSO/buying rabbit hole for their first couple of years...and hence their advice:

it takes time to be successful. NO, it doesn't. More in a second.

Also, number of post counts and thanks, etc. mean next to nothing. The person who had the most posts on the WF at one time was banned. There are Warriors with over 10,000 posts and tons of thanks who made it big (100k per year) and then tumbled down the mountain in a few months because of a Google change.

They were "coaches" and gurus selling their secrets, and then starting all over.

Since the Freelancer take over, we've seen organized groups, maybe just two or three, work together to post on a subject all at the same time. There are those Warriors who have only been around a couple of years and have huge post counts and thanks...why should we listen to what they say?

Then, who doesn't know what they hate or won't do? Won't do phones?... then that should eliminate every single thing that involves phones. Same about face to face selling. One doesn't need much introspection to know what they won't do.

As for the vicarious thrill seekers. In the last 100 years of information marketing, the marketer knew and understood that most buyers were not going to use and apply their info.

We called them librarians, collectors, the ones who get a buying high. They have always been the majority of buyers.

BUT, the few who DO. They don't need to fail for years.

In a discussion with Joe Karbo, he told me it was 90/10 buyers of his book to those who actually did anything, but the ones who did, found success very rapidly.

It wasn't and isn't about the HOW and WHAT...but it is always about the WHY and WHO.

The person who spends 30 to 60 days, who has come to the IM prepared and armed with even basic business understanding, exploring the options and choosing one to STICK WITH,

choosing one of the things, they WILL do (because they come knowing what they won't do)...

And stays with it for a year, providing they haven't built their sand castles on someone else's beach, like Google, or Facebook...can and should be able to generate an income equal to the Average income in their world. 18 months of focused activity on ONE thing, could be all that is needed to get the rock up the hill and over the cliff.

Anyhow, good advice OP, just like most good advice, it falls mainly on deaf ears.

      True, especially the PS.

If you understand your market and have skill to bring to the table, you can do well quickly. I was profitable online right away, after three months of interacting with the target market.

18 months...that's forever to newbies chasing shiny objects, who give up on a new idea in about three days.

Kinda makes me think of the advice for cleaning your teeth that dentists share: "Brush longer."
