Amazon Niche Sites Still Work

I want to build a niche site (20 to 30 pages reviews and informative) to promote Amazon products.

Do these sites still work?

I reviewed the SERP results for keywords such as (my product reviews) as well as other related buyer keywords and I always see that it is taken by gigantic authority sites.

Any advise is appreciated.

Of course they still work! The key rules haven't changed! If you have a site that shows up on Google when somebody searches for product related topics or topics that someone is passionate about and there are related products on Amazon - bingo! If you have a website that has followers on social sites and you have related Amazon products on your site - bingo again.

The problem is HOW to create these sites so that they attract targeted traffic! That's what people don't really know and that's why so many are wondering around, spending lots of time and not making money.

There are different ways to go about Amazon site and it has all to do with how you intend to get visitors:

    - you can go for SEO approach. You do a keyword research and rank your site for targeted keywords
    - you can do paid advertising
    - you can do social website marketing which can be both free and paid

All of the above is easier said than done! I will just say many times it's HOW, not WHAT. From your comments about gigantic authority site I can tell that you don't know how to do proper keyword research and how to assess the competition.

You can also try to find a new approach to the idea of review. For instance, YouTube videos are great if you really want to impress your readers. Also, you can take a funny approach and create a witty review that people will read and share because they actually like it.

        yes, a resounding YES !!

But I would pick a few mentors like Jan Roos to get off on the right foot with AMZN

I forget whether it was Extreme Review or another offer but at least one of her products recommends targeting keywords like "over the counter cutting boards". While these types of phrases are rather easy to rank for, Google generally shows "Shop for...." ads directly above the search results.

People searching for "over the counter cutting boards" are likely shopping for them so they are quite likely clicking those "Shop for..." ads and really not going any further.

The trick to doing well as an Amazon affiliate that relies on SEO is to target terms that DO NOT produce "Shop for..." ads in the SERPs.

So, while her info isn't necessarily "out of date", I do question some of the strategies espoused. However, in the interest of transparency, I haven't utilized this particular strategy (might mess around with it in the future). Instead, I use my own low-competition strategy to profit from my Amazon niche sites while also using social media on others.

That's a different course. Extreme Review is about writing very detailed reviews on products that require explanation as to how they work.

Good info. If that's the case, Extreme Review is the better of the two products. What I do on my own sites is very similar then to Extreme Review.

In my not so humble opinion, there is no specific Amazon affiliate course that will show you how to make much more than a mediocre income.

What I would recommend is to learn fundamental marketing principles. Some books that I have used for developing my own marketing courses (offline seminars) came from classics like:

          Selling 101 by Zig Ziglar
How to Master the Art of Selling by Tom Hopkins
Brand Against the Machine by John Michael Morgan
Advanced Affiliate Marketing by Jenna Inouye
          Permission Marketing by Seth Godin
Epic Content Marketing by Joe Pulizzi

          to name a few.

They can still work. It depends on the products and keywords you are targeting plus the quality of your content. You need to assess the number of keyowrd searches, the competition and have buyer intent to find the ones you can rank for.

The content you provide needs to be valuable to your visitor that is relevant - the more you can give them what they want and with your own voice the easier it is going to be convert

Of course they still work. However, limiting yourself to 20 pages is foolish and likely to result in failure. If you can't carve out an hour a day to provide ongoing maintenance / growth of your site beyond 20 pages, you should just quit now.

If you are trying to compete with the gigantic authority sites using Google as a primary traffic source, most likely you'll fall flat on your face. A 20-30 page website has a snowball's chance in hell against them.

As a general rule, it is almost never a good marketing strategy to use the same traffic generation methods as the competition, especially when going head to head against deep-pocketed professionals.

While I don't doubt that it's possible to generate some traffic with a 30 page site, your chances are incredibly slim.

Google has been increasingly in favor of authority sites over the years as these sites usually tend to be more helpful to the end user (the one searching for info).

In any case, building one profitable authority site is easier than building multiple "thin" sites that turn a profit.

It definitely still works. I would advise that you create your site as a broad authority site vs. a small niche site. You won't run out of products to review with this approach and can keep growing the site instead of backing yourself into a corner.

Find some product + review keywords and get to work....inner pages are ranking a lot quicker than home pages RIGHT NOW so you will have to focus on the low hanging fruit. A good silo will help you with picking off those easier keywords while the site gains traction.

Of course it works. Asking if amazon niche sites still work is like asking if affiliate marketing still works.
Although it still works, I must say that I`m not a fan of the 4% - 8% comission...and the 24h cookie? Bleah!
Have you considered other alternatives, like Clickbank?
Another thing I hate about Amazon is that they only pay by cheque in Romania...it`s like we are a 3rd world country somewhere in the middle of the Amazon forest (no pun intended )

I'd say they were amazing just look at what they do

Cross sell like no one else
Pay commission on items you don't promote

Honestly my job is really just to take you on a little journey to get you to the Amazon site.

They have a virtually frictionless checkout system which increases sales and provide the peace of mind of being a major international brand.

They also provide amazing support for associates and actively look to help associates out.

I'd much rather 8℅ commission and the added benefits of working with Amazon than 50℅ of some dodgy supplement/pill or traffic plan.

I run about a dozen different sites (actually, probably 10 actively). Most of them have matching social media presence and traffic generation (what you are referring to in my signature). Some are simply review sites that get most of their traffic from SEO.

            So, it's a mixture.

Exactly. There is no such thing as an Amazon site or a Clickback site or a Share-a-Sale site or an Adsense site. Those are just monetization methods and you can mix and match them to just about any business, though obviously some are more suited to some businesses than others. On our site we use a variety of monetization methods depending on what the product being sold is, though Amazon certainly our biggest income generator.

Alternatively, when you can consistently sell 10,000 to 50,000 Amazon products per month, the 24 hour cookie and 8.5% commission are also insignificant limitations, even if the product prices are fairly low. Just a different way to skin the same cat -- though in either case the same two questions apply: (1) Can you get traffic? (2) Can you sell?

And with programs like Clickbank you get a store nobody has ever heard of and a shitty product. The point is that networks like Clickbank aren't offering those high commission rates because they want to -- or even because digital goods are cheaper to produce and distribute than physical.

They're offering these high rates because they have to -- it's a matter of supply and demand. And the reason they have to offer high commission rates is that their products are harder to sell than physical products sold on places like Amazon. So to make it worth it for their top affiliates to sell with them, they offer higher rates so that their affiliates will make up for their overall lower sales volume with higher per product commissions.

This isn't to say you can't get a high sales volume on a place like Clickbank, but for every $97 weight training guide sold on Clickbank, I'd guess that 1,000 $10 physical books or kindle books on weight training are sold on Amazon -- from known authors with professional editors, photographers/illustrators/designers, and with lots of customer and professional reviews. Of course, that doesn't mean that you would sell 1,000 products on Amazon to every Clickbank product you sold. Every business is different and for you it may actually be the other way around.

Again, I'm not saying Amazon is superior to Clickbank -- different businesses and different marketers match better or worse with different monetization streams. But if you're choosing your affiliate program based on commission rate and cookie length, you're likely making a big mistake.

And I'd also say that if you're choosing your affiliate program because you can't figure out how or don't want to cash a check, you're probably making a mistake too.

              • They definitely do work but you need to focus on providing top quality content to your blog readers.

Don't try to sell to them, try to educate them and create in depth reviews with lots of long tail keywords and you can get great results.

Amazon does a lot of the marketing for you, just try to provide quality content and reasons for your visitors to click on your links ie read more reviews here, check the lowest price today etc.

                Have fun.

Why is it even called an Amazon niche site? You're intention is to create a site which builds value and helps your reader make a buying decisions. Think of an authority website you know in your niche. In the UK we have a brand called WHICH. This is a company that more or less reviews products for people to make decisions. Why is it good? Its a huge brand going back to the 90's. My old man use to buy a magazine called What Car, on buying cars. Now they have a website for WhatCar.com, WhatHiFi.com and many more....If you're going to dominate, pick a niche and stick with it. If you're going for the mass "amazon" website builds setup on only 20pages each, make sure you're targeting the long tail keywords to get any chance. Good luck
