Hi, I would like to buy some domains and put simple amazon autoblog. I learned that if the domain name is a keyword it will be easy to rank well for this term... and get targeted traffic. My question: Can I choose a domain that contain a brand name? Example: chicco baby stroller with 720 search/month => chiccobabystroller.com Thanks for your advice |

I can tell you what may happen if you use a brand name. The company may find out about your domain and ask you to stop using it. At that point you will need to find another domain or try to fight a losing battle. This happened to me with 2 domains I had with ebay in them. I also tried to use Twitter with a big affiliate network and they rejected my site because they no longer accepted domains with twitter in them. Twitter could have shut me down at any time they wanted also I guess. So I picked another name that was similiar. You can see that in my domain in sig below. So I believe you can use it until they want you to stop. So you may want to find a domain that reflects the product but doesn't use their name to avoid being shut down. I also see a lot of people using brands and have no problems and their sites have been up for a while. So it is up to the company as to whether they want you to cease using their name. You would think that if a name is trademarked that you shouldn't be allowed to buy that domain from a domain registrar but they don't stop you from using brand names. Mike |

Speak to an attorney or lawyer who specialise in trademarks. Do a google search: domain names and trademark infringement - Google Search If all of the above are too expensive or time consuming. You could listen to me -DON'T Now to be a little bit more useful...If you want to sell branded goods , why don't you acquaint yourself to the conduit method? there are some good and inexpensive resources from Chris Rempel and other warriors here on the forum. That is all...Good day |

It's a good question, and brings in copyright law. Somebody registered a version of Triple Clicks one time and caused SFI some bother with this. Also, if you put "SFI" into Google the top entries are for a forestry company. I found this when promoting my own "SFI Blog". WWF the Wrestling company was at loggerheads with the World Wildlife Federation for years until a judge made them give up the name and register as WWE. Sophia |

Since I know that I avoid brand names and if the chance is to great and I have to use it, protect my hosting and registry. | |

Dont do it. You can use a model number, however, as they are rarely trademarked. Find one of the IPK threads for more on that (info product killer). Say for example that the stroller was model number ak123. You could buy that in a domain, or buy ak123babystroller. Some are worth pursuing and some are not. |

What about iPhone? I have 3 domains with iphone in the title, haven't used them yet though. Should I build them or sell them? Had them since 2006 or so but never worked on them yet. What do you all think? |

| It would be virtually impossible for domain registrars to determine whether a particular domain name potentially violated someone's trademark.
