Yes, it happens all the time.

$8k in Image Copyright Infringement Penalties: Bloggers, Beware!

Be safe and pay for your images from trusted sites (like Depositphotos.com).

Papers have been filed against trump for using an image without permission.

    In reality your question is

'Is it ok if I steal?'

No it's not, search this forum several times people have put together lists for people for useful image sites that don't charge. Go to those sites read the terms and conditions (I know what a pain in the arse) then choose a suitable image.

It seems like it should be true, but most times the images that are on Google are scraped from websites similar to the way words are scraped to make the SERPS listings and are not really available for other people to use.

These days there are many free photo sites with lots of great photos and other images that can be used free of cost and free of worry.

Yeah. That's true. I heard it once.

It's really illegal to post picture that wasn't yours. You have to give credits to the owner of the photo.

That is why people put watermarks to their photos.

    Hello there,

Never ever do that, or you're going to be paying a big amount of fine! This is just Image Copyright Infringement, and photo owners are very keen and particular on this matter. Thus, it's either you pay for the image you want to use for your blog, or utilize free images from other sites.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, it happens all the time. And if the image copyright happens to belong to a large corporation, I hope you have deep pockets.

How the heck would you even enforce an illegal image? I guess you would get your lawyer to send a cease and desist first off, but the website in question would have to be from the same country as you I would imagine.

There are 2 international treaties that protect copyright.

The copyright holder just has to send a DMCA notice (no lawyer required). If the copyrighted image still isn't taken down most legit webhosts will terminate the offending account.

If the picture is registered with the US Copyright office, the copyright holder can seek up to $250,000 in statutory damages per offense. This means the copyright holder does not need to prove financial loss because of the infringement.

I have a feeling if most webhost companies received anything even close to what you're suggesting, they would take down the site/image first and then ask questions later.
