YouTube traffice compounding effect

Has anyone ever studied or explained why the compounding effect exists on YouTube?

When you first start posting videos, you'll get very little traffic. If you never post anymore videos... it's almost like you fall off the map. You'll continue to get very little traffic. But if you keep posting new videos on a regular basis, your channel will take off. You'll start getting more and more subscribers, and your new videos will gain traffic much faster than your older videos.

YouTube works a bit like social media sites (technically, one can argue that it is a social media site) in that channels can become authoritative like pages, such as on Facebook.

YouTube's algorithm rewards channels with more exposure when there are videos that engage the viewers; this is largely determined by several factors such as duration of watch time, likes, subscribers, and comments.

Therefore, active channels that consistently put out content that their audience enjoys will start to become authoritative in YouTube's eyes and new videos will get far more exposure than a channel with one video.

Not to mention the fact that a channel with a lot of subscribers will get almost immediate views to new videos, which kick-starts the exposure each video gets.

    Regards,
    Daniel

IMO, YT is a social site...and you'll get better results if you use it like a social site and interact with other users, creators/channel owners.

People worry too much about "how to rank" and not enough about the social side of YT. As you get more social, you'll likely start seeing your own videos ranking better.

Google owns Youtube and Google likes fresh content. If you aren't posting on a regular basis, they see your channel as "dead", and you don't get the rankings you would normally get, if you posted on a regular basis.

If you can, post a new video every day.

This is a good point. I know a few people that create a ton of videos, then upload them all at once. IMO, they would be better to upload 15-20 pretty quickly, then upload the rest of them at a rate of 1-2 a week.

It also depends on the content of your post. If you post a very interesting or entertaining video then you're likely to get more traffic.

It's not based on how regular you make your post. It's all about the content.

How regularly you update your channel will impact your subscribers, which will naturally impact your views, likes and comments. Giving people 100 videos to watch all at once is a lot different than giving your subscribers a new video or two every week.

While good content is a major factor, it isn't all there is to it.
