What's The Best Webhosting Service?

I was looking at this review site, but I'm not sure it's absolutely 100% honest.
Most of the internet marketers I know recommend a combination of namecheap and hostgator, or just hostgator.

Why then does ''FatCow'' stand on #1 here? Is it simply because these guys want you to buy the ''cheaper'' hosting which has probably got a higher affiliate commission for them?

It says:

- Unlimited disk space
- Unlimited bandwith
- Unlimited domains hosted

Do you think I should get Fat Cow at $ 3.67/month?

Cheers,
Collatio

Well, as far as I know, on most of those host review sites, hosts are not ranked on basis of quality / support / packages etc rather the affiliate commissions they pay. That may justify FatCow being #1. I've not taken a look at the FatCow aff program so can't say.

I'd recommend you browse around a bit here, you'll get a lot of good information on web hosts using the Search function. My recommendation would be Hostgator for shared hosting and Wiredtree for VPS.

I've been using Hostgator for about a year now. I've gone through a few hosting providers, and Hostgator is my favorite so far. The uptime is really good and my sites load quickly. The only incident I ever had was when they did an upgrade to an mysql server, and it damaged a DB for one of my sites. I got on live chat and the db was restored right away. If you plan on having multiple sites I recommend the Business hosting package.

Review sites are designed for making money, so they promote products with good commission and they are rarely impartial. I've never tried Fat Cow hosting, but, like the others, I would recommend Hostgator.

I have only ever used hostgator, but I really love it. At first I was put off by the clunky look of their website, but actually hostgator have excellent uptime, and really good, instant support on their live chat

Hostgator all the way. I have a bunch of sites and never had a problem in 5 years. They also have what you need which is:
        Unlimited Space
        Unlimited Bandwith
        Unlimited Domains

There is no such thing as unlimited and these are all used to get customers. If you don't believe me then the next time you goto you local computer store ask them for a unlimited harddrive.

Unlimited in the hosting world means overselling and overloading a server.

As soon as you exceed you resources that is usually very low you will run into problems.

I've used Hostagator for quite a while and it's been no trouble, plus a good price. To start off with, I used 1and1 partly because the interface is easier, and you can order domains from within the same page as well,

    best wishes,

I have used 1and1.com for the last few years and have not had problems.

Right now they are having a summer sale where you get the regular home package free for one year! This includes free domain name and some coupons for adwords. This is only for the 4.99/mo package. The other packages have 3 months free or so.

I originally signed up for their free 3 year pro package way back when, and then decided to keep the package.

I personally always prefer a host that doesn't massively oversell, however when it comes to "unlimited" hosts, HostGator does seem the best.

Another thumbs up for hostgator here. I've a dedicated server with them since the spring 2007. Works like a charm - up for consecutive 901 days now!

The only interruption that I'm aware of was the infamous network error a couple months ago.

The support, though I haven't used it since the setup, was prompt when I needed them.

Can't really ask for anything more.

Gotta go with Hostgator for shared hosting. Their support is great. If you are ever in the market for a VPS solution though, I really like WiredTree as well. They also have fantastic support.

Alright guys thanks a lot for the ''Hostgator'' recommendation.

Still though, what makes me want to try FatCow is the fact that they offer:

        All the ''Unlimited'' stuff.
        Free domain etc.
        ''Great?'' support.

and best of all it's only 3.67$ per month!
Now that's more than 50% less than Hostgator..

Collatio - check for real reviews for that company. Via WebHostingTalk is the best way.

As above, "unlimited" is actually a lie. However it just so happens that HostGator are a very good "unlimited" host. But that doesn't mean that *any* host that offers "unlimited" stuff is good, it's usually the opposite actually. HG are the exception.

However if they have good reviews, then go for them. Never rely on only what you are offered and remember that around 90% of these "review" sites are paid-for ones. So go on WebHostingTalk etc to get reviews.

      Thanks Tristan, will do.

Alright I couldn't find any good and genuine reviews for Fat Cow and I can't have a bad host now so I'm going for the safe-bet, Hostgator.

I use Bluehost and Hostgator. Both are very good but I like the cpanel on Bluehost the best because of the FTP options and the use of "Simple Scripts" for Wordpress installations and WP updates.

I have to agree. WHT is by far the best place for hosting info.

Not Allen's company, but it used to be hundreds of internet years ago.

Personally I don't care for HG. Really high affiliate commissions which the customer pays for, and prefer DirectAdmin to cPanel. I just put up a page about the control panels part at DirectAdmin Beats Cpanel, mostly because I'm a bit tired of hearing about nothing but cPanel around here. I should probably make a forum post out of parts of it as it is one of the more under appreciated items around here.

WHT is also an excellent source of information about it.

      best wishes,

I've been using JustHost since this past summer and have had zero problems with it. The interface is not complicated either. They do offer cron jobs but I have no experience with that so can't say if it's reliable in that respect.

We use and also recommend Liquid Web (AWESOME hosting company)

    Hostgator is also really good!

Freehosting our advice is try to stay away from free hosting providers if your serious about running a business online, as free hosting is not always well "reliable"...
