Has a website like this been done before?

A freelance type of website but for physical products instead of jobs. I love how freelancers can search for people who need jobs done on sites like Upwork but can this be done for products also?

I wanted to make a website where buyers can post what they're looking for (ex: I'm looking for an Iphone, my budget is this and that) and sellers who have said product can search for these people and make a proposal to them (ex: I have an Iphone, I'll sell it to you for this and that)

Kinda like Upwork where people who need jobs done post on there and people who can do the job search them up and make proposals to them.

Has a website like this been done before?

    Sounds kind of like Craigslist and EBay. Or one of those garage sale local community pages on Facebook. Without something absolutely unique you might be better off with a different idea to work on.

    Try using forums. There are forum which offers free posting of buy and sell items.

    Just make sure that the forum you're going to register has a lot of users so that it can guarantee you that it would reach your target customers.

    Your idea could work from my perspective.

    While services like Craigslist and eBay do actually offer something similar, I believe that a website focused on this type of service and refined enough with excellent usability, navigation, newbie friendly and eventually satisfied users, can in due time become an authority website with will provide a nice income to the mastermind behind this.

    The concept is somehow unique but similar as there are many sites that sell products or allow you to place bids. Did you do a bit of market research? Do you know people that would be interested in such a site?

    I am not sure anyone, seller or buyer, would want to use a site like this. You have ebay and Amazon both with great search engines. If I have something to sell I would use one of those sites and have the buyers come to me.

    I don't know why anyone would use a site like that instead of ebay unless the fee's were much cheaper. But even then, it would need some major traffic to offer anywhere near the range of choice that people have on ebay.

    Sounds also like Gumtree.
    Definitely not a new concept so I wouldn't recommend it because you would have HUGE competition.

    Actually there is a website exactly like that but mixed with other stuffs like jobs/services because you can pose anything you want like old stuffs 2nd hand or B-New as well (you can even post your wife if you want-just kidding but yes you can).
    We have OLX formerly sulit and there are other sites that I know but have specifics like selling gadgets only (phones,computers).
