How to market to small business owners & entrepreneurs?

Hi fellow Warriors,

I have a new product catered towards small business owners & entrepreneurs. Just wondering if anybody had any tips/advice on marketing to these audiences. I figure PPC is one method- but I don't have a huge budget.

Any ideas, advice, or strategies would be very much appreciated!

SMM (Social Media Marketing) and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) might be two things to consider. I'd imagine many small business owners & entrepreneurs use Google and other search engines to find things. Small business owners & entrepreneurs would also use social media such as Facebook and Twitter to some degree as well.

I think PPC is the best method to use. You can consider facebook ppc and laser target your audience or try soloads sellers. Another good way is to advertise on entrepreneurship blogs or websites.

Yes, guest blogging is a good idea as long as you only cover blogs that address businesses. Also, you can use a good content marketing strategy to put Google's love for content at work. Like any possible customer, business owners will also do an online search when they need services.
Another good idea is to try and list your business in local directories (reliable ones).

If you don't have a big budget, have you considered hiring a VA for $25 to do a lead collection campaign for you using Facebook groups?

The key here is to get your VA to thoroughly research groups to find the most responsive audiences

Next, post high quality credibility-building content

Use your posts to collect emails

Congrats on your new product GoldPro I wonder what it's about? Joke.

One good piece of advice is to view your competition as your allies.

Reach out to them and perhaps do a JV..joint venture deal where you would promote each others product by making his/hers your bonus and that person reciprocates.

Also you could join the affiliate programs of your competition and mention it inside your product for example if they have a strength in their features that would enhance your offering.

That product owner would surely give you some of his/her insider promotion tips as their affiliate.

But I wish you much success with your new venture.

PPC is good and your really don't need a large budget. Go to Bing. They have some great traffic and its fairly inexpensive. Even something like forum marketing which is free can be effective for you.

Seems like you either went about things backward, or you already have some of the answers.

How did you decide to create this product? Did you base it on something a group of small business owners or entrepreneurs told you they wanted? Or did you find some magical keyword? Maybe it just came to you out of thin air?

You probably need to break down your market segments a bit more. "Small business owners" is a pretty diverse group. A private chef, an attorney specializing in estate planning, a farmer and a doctor with his own practice could all be considered small business owners, yet their needs are very different. As are the ways to contact them.

Perry Marshall likes to tell the story about how he got started in consulting. The tl;dr version is that he struck a bargain with his former employer to get articles placed in a variety of trade magazines. While the company's expertise was showcased, it was Perry's name in the byline.

You could do something similar, and with some of the channels available now (like publishing to LinkedIn), it could be much easier to gain exposure and build authority. Just take it one vertical at a time.

A part of my own marketing approach is to directly target small business owners and entrepreneurs, as well as corporate executives. The strategy I use is to showcase my expertise through articles in online/offline publications which are read by targeted demographics and specialties. A few engaging articles well-placed in relevant venues can drive massive amounts of highly convertible traffic in a relatively short period of time.

If i had no budget at all i would simply find small businesses (in my particular niche) on google and collect email by email, or use a scraper to collect emails (sometimes this softwares don't work great) and then blast some emails to them or even some cold calling. Then when i have build enough money to start some ads i would start adwords and facebook ads.

Do you mean offline small business owners? If so you should check out the strategies in the offline marketing section of this forum. Direct mail & the SRDS might be the best way. And if you're persuasive on the phone, maybe cold calling.

New products marketing is quite interesting, you can marketing new open up with many ways. But final decision is based on your budget, what product you're going to reach out. My opinion is new products marketing is more interesting and also some difficulties also there. If you go with social media paid ads or organic traffic, video ads, blogging or anything, these are one of the techniques apart from email marketing technique is more effective. It assists your product promotional activity. Try to choose any affordable marketing tool. For this marketing purpose check Apptivo, I think it fulfills your necessity.

    Hello there,

You can start of by utilizing social media sites. I mean, they're free, so why not use them first? In addition, maybe you can start by making blogs that are search engine optimized (SEO), if you want to reach a bigger market in the Web. There are blog sites such as Wordpress or Blogger which you can use.

Wishing you the best of luck.

I'll also have to chime in with some of the others and say that Facebook is a viable way to test with some Ad Campaigns on.
It is competitive and can be pricey but you can narrow your target market no other platform

So much of this depends on your audience.

For example, if your target market is "owners of yoga studios", you might take a different approach vs "IT consultants in the nearby metropolitan area", vs "CPAs who belong to a certain membership organization", etc.

The better you can target your audience, the more effectively you can reach them, but the specific way to reach them is hard to know without knowing more about the market. Can you share some more details?
