What is an average signup rate page for a squeeze page?

Hello,

I have been trying to find the answer to that question (read title) here but I have failed to do so. I am merely asking to see what would be a feasible goal.

My best squeeze page returns a 24.8% subscription/unique views rate. Should it be 60%? I have a light box that does the same exact number.
I have not used video squeeze pages yet.

I have an open rate of 70% for my clients and 45% to 55% for my prospects. The click through rate is between 21%-35%

In your opinion what are good signup an open rates? What should be my next goal?
I know that conversion is another important goal but I am trying to focus on the newsletter end of the equation here.

I would say anything around 40-50% is good.

Above that and it's killer. In fact I got a killer squeeze page that converts 73.8%.

Been moving all the other squeeze pages to that format and the results have been really great. =)

I knew we could do better than this 24.8%. I guess I will set our next goal to 50%.
I really needed this. It is very hard for me to try to reach goals without knowing if they make sense in the first place. Now that I know that even 70% is possible, I feel that 50% is a good target.

There are so many factors to consider. If the traffic is junk, then your sign up ratio will be junk and vice versa.

If you have the right offer in front of the right people, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting a 50+% opt in rate.

Without seeing the page, it's hard to offer advice on what you may want to test/tweak.

    Hi

I have a very basic template, in fact I can't recall where but I actually downloaded it free... Made a lot of changes ( Basically I just used the border lol ) and have seen a consistant 69.3% optin for about 2- 3 months now

See it here - http://deanholland.com/blogtrafficguide.html if interested

As above, let us see your squeeze page for anyone to offer advise... I believe my above page is an example of how plain pages work well !! You dont need loads of stuff on the page and IMO its best not to.

It has been suggested to me that I improve my page by moving it all above the crease, what do you all think ?

I have just never wanted to change a good thing but maybe it could make the good thing better... What you think ??

    Thanks

I think you should test changes. On a squeeze page it only takes a few hundred visitors to test all kinds of variations. I can virtually guarantee after looking at your page that you can improve your conversion rate.

Here are two pages converting over 70%:

Internet Cash Windfalls: How to create a cash windfall on the internet in as little as 30 days

Internet Cash Windfalls: How to create a cash windfall on the internet in as little as 30 days

small variations and still testing, but both of these are neck-and-neck right now.

By the way these are the product of over 1,400 variations evaluated.

Opt in rates depend on a lot of factors - your template, your text, and your traffic being the main ones. When you're testing and tweaking, don't go crazy changing a lot of things at once, you won't be able to narrow down what affected the changes in optin rate (positive or negative) and either build on it or scrap it. Make one change, record the results, move on to the next change, etc.

There are so many factors that go into the opt-in rate %.

Besides the obvious of - the page itself, the traffic is hugely important. If you could keep track of what traffic gives you the highest opt-in rate you will see large differences.

Eve for things such as keywords. 1 keyword may give you a 40% opt-in rate while another one may give you a 20% opt-in rate.

If you get twice as many people coming to yoursite from the 40% opt-in keyword, you will see your overall opt-in rate at 35%. So the numbers tell their own story when you look at things individually.

People do like to have a benchmark to start judging things by however, so I would say between 15-20% is what to look for at first and then build upwards from there.

But the factors that have a role to play on your opt-in rate include (in no particular order)

what you are offering in exchange for their contact info
the opt-in page (copy, videos, headlines, etc)
          the market
where the traffic comes from (search engine, articles, etc.)
what the traffic was searching for
          pre-sold or cold traffic
if you are using confirmed opt in

and other things influence the final number.

Just as an example, if your market includes mostly people 60 years and up who are not very familiar with the internet, and they have to confirm their opt-in they can become utterly confused and feel like you are asking them to program a VCR and just not bother.

And you would see a very low opt-in rate, and there may be nothing at all wrong with the copy on your opt-in page. It is just the confirmed opt-in is turning off a large percentage of people due to the market you are attracting.

  • Too many variables to say for sure.

Typically I will test until the page does over 50%, but in some niches and from some traffic sources that is an unrealistic number.

The best answer is probably: "Whatever gives you leads at a profit." i.e.: When the cost of capturing the lead is less than the money you make from the lead.

I've found that short, catchy and high energy copy works well for squeeze pages in all my tests.

Don't use any logic, press their emotional buttons, desire buttons immediately.

People usually have their mind made up in seconds whether to enter their e-mail or close the page so you have to go full out.

It is a bit like you have 30 seconds to persuade someone you just met to go on a date with you as opposed to 30 minutes. With 30 seconds you play it differently.

It will vary greatly depending on the niche, user demographics etc.

If you are currently doing 24% your next goal is 25%. Once you're there your next goal is 26%

      Hello Josh,

We have already moved from 14% to 24.8% reaching for 26% is not really motivating to me. I'd rather try and reach 50% at first and if we only get 26% to 27% in the first attempts, hey that's OK too.

      Cheers

I really would have thought the industry standard for "good" would be around the 20% or 1 in 5 mark.

    Am I missing something?

    40%?

    50%?
