Are internet/affiliate Marketers Flakey?

I recently launched a product on jvzoo called the six figure list. Many people were interested in promoting it and I actually had to deny quite a few.
I got many request from members of this forum Which were basically, "I'm the king of the warrior forum. Approve me at once!" and they were in fact "gods among us" in this forum.
But on launch day they were ALL M.I.A. Of the 90 affiliates that promised me the world only 4 actually did anything at all.
My question is, do internet marketers suffer from some kind of "shiny product" syndrome like buyers do, where they see a shiny new product that looks promising and right away they want to promote it, but like many buyers they do nothing with it?

I even had one well known internet marketer sign up and later ask me, "so when does this launch?" When I told him he says "Oh, im busy that day, good luck though?"
SERIOUSLY??

So is my experience with flakey behavior unique or part of the business?

I'm really curious to hear your responses.

Yes affiliate marketers are flaky. They're lazy. Its your job to constantly notify them when the launch is going live, any important updates, etc. Offering cash prizes is another way to motivate people to promote.

Those professionals usually do what they put their mind to though. The problem is, IM'ers have got no one to answer to, but themselves so that can be a drawback.

Your experience is very common and it's one reason, among others, that Internet marketing is not easy.

Your affiliates are your sales force. It's very difficult to start out with a brilliant team. You work at it over time and begin to understand who you want on your team, and who you can do without.

A handful of the top affiliates are worth everything! You must learn to attract the right people, treat them like gold, and let the others fade away into the sunset.

You will also learn that you must have high converting offers of top quality products. The super affiliates won't waste their time with you if you can't provide the basis for their success. But if you can, they will keep working for you over and over again.

I know from being in the real estate business that more than half of the people never show up. They call me with excitement in their voices. Ah yes, they ask me all kinds of questions about the house and when they can come.

Gasoline might be cheap, but my time is expensive. Also, there is the wear and tear on my car. Funny, I wait and wait, but the hot prospect never comes.

I call back to see why they are late and I find out that they - have to take their mother to the hospital because she is dying of cancer.

Well, I call back a few days later to reschedule and find out that their mothers died many years ago. Also, that they do not make enough money - near minimum wage. Please call me up. Waste my time and tell me trash that belongs in a garbage can.

While they were waiting for you to approve them, some other products came up and they probably decided to promote those without having to wait for approval.

I mean we're dealing with people here. Some will keep their word and some won't. This happens in business all the time. Don't worry about them. Keep grinding and making money on your own.
