Question About Warrior Forum Rules.

Hey guys a have been reading and commenting on quite a few threads lately and I have seen something that i thought was against the Warrior forum rules.

I have read Warrior Forum rules thread and it has no mention of what I need to know.

What is the policy on putting links in your threads.

I ask because I have seen quite a few threads that have external links to other sites in them.

In fact...I just saw a thread that leads straight to a registration/optin page.

Are these people breaking the rules or are these links to other websites not breaking the rules.

I ask because I don't want to flag anyone who has not done anything wrong.

Can anyone give me an answer to this question.

Ps...Don't tell me to go read the Warrior Forum rules because I already stated I have and they have no mention of this.

Yes, you cannot put self promoting links within the Post itself. You can put in links that are NOT self serving within your Post. ...i.e. a Site that you think could truly benefit the Community here

Also if you need some help or opinions about a Site you have, you are welcome to put that in the Post. But you have to disclose that you are looking for help and give specifics on what you need help with concerning this Site

Thanks. That clears things up for me.

The best thing you can do if you see posts that are breaking the rules - and there will always be people who try - just click the little triangle under the poster's name. That will bring up a form you can use to say why you think the post is inappropriate. If enough members report the post, it disappears from public view until a moderator makes a decision on it.

Use the report button for things like the links you mentioned, affiliate links in sigs, outright spam, and even posts where someone gets carried away and becomes abusive.

If the mods agree with you, all or part of the post will be deleted. If the offense warrants it, so will the poster.

If they don't, no harm, no foul.

Thanks...I have only seen 1 thread today that is out right spam because it links to a registration page and is simply an ad and brings no value to the forum.

The person should have posted it in the Classified Ad section, but I guess they did not want to pay the posting fee.

Wait until the US football season starts. Pretty much every Saturday/Sunday the spammers promoting pirate streaming services come out in droves. Same for other major athletic events - NCAA basketball tourney, Olympics, etc. They sign up and spam as fast as the mods can clean them out.

Another thing you may see, especially with old threads dug up (found one today from 2009) is that the spam post that dug it up gets deleted, but it gets new activity.

Self promotion, IMO, is the hardest rule breaker to identify.

If someone links to their own product or service in the post (not the sig file), it's fairly cut and dried.

But what about posts where the Warrior says in the post, "I can help you with that, just visit my signature link"?

Or "PM me and I'll tell you what I did" (and of course the advice is to buy the product the Warrior is going to recommend ... or buy through his affiliate link.) Isn't that self promotion in a round about way?

And what about Warriors that post answering a question and suggesting that they can help the OP at their web site? (which just happens to be linked in their sig file although they don't actually say "see my sig link.)"

And maybe the hardest of all to distinguish are Warriors that say something like "Please review my site and tell me if you like the design or not."

Are they seriously just asking for a response to the design? Or are they slyly just trying to get traffic and hopefully some sales from folks visiting the site? Or are they doing it to get a back link from the WF? We can guess about such things, but don't know for sure.

Sometimes self promotion is blatant, other times it's a little harder to call "foul" when you don't really know the intent of the OP.

Yes this is a HUGE problem and been going on for years here. And some people get away with it time after time after time.

I simply respond to them that this is the purpose of our Community here to share openly among ALL the Members to see, not through PMs

Well...I have adapted the old time motto..."Do onto others as you would have them done onto you!"

I would not like anyone to flag my post if I did not break the rules, so I don't want to mistakenly flag someone else's post just because I did not know the rules and they do know the rules.

I imagine the spammers and scammer don't like people flagging their posts, either. If you mistakenly flag a post and it doesn't break the rules, the mod who draws it should simply delete your report and move on to the next one. No harm, no foul.

YOU aren't deleting a post, and one report isn't enough to take it offline. All you're doing is telling the moderators "hey, you might want to take a look at this." If enough people do it, it disappears until a mod checks it out. If it's okay, back it comes.

Turn the golden rule around and consider this. I would want others to help clean up after a party or BBQ, why not on a forum?

Theoretically, we shouldn't have to make those decisions. That's what Moderators are for.
