Using WP as a CMS help please

I'm having a bit of trouble visualizing how I should do this.

What I want is to have a left-hand navigation bar. Those links connect to a "tier 2". Each tier 2 then has several other pages that relate to it. I want the tier 2 page to be a content page.

Right now, it seems that if I make each content page as a "post", I can set this up with "categories". However, then when I click on categories, it isn't a content page, it's a list of the posts.

If I try to do this as "pages", I can write the pages, but WP is listing all of them down the side, not just my tier two pages. In the set up, it says that I can exclude pages by number, but I'm using the permalink structure of %postname% for better SEO.

How am I supposed to do this? This is a new site and the content isn't set up on it yet. I want to get it right the first time.

Love,
Shannon

    Hi,

I use WPRemix Premium Wordpress CMS Theme , you can take a look at a site build with it in my signature.

    I hope you like it!

You can still exclude by page numbers - the permalinks don't factor into it.

    I use this plugin:

    Multi-level Navigation Plugin for WordPress

to help me create nicely formatted tiers like you mentioned.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Barb, when you say that I can still exclude by number...how can I do that. I don't see that each page has a number when I create it. I do see that I can add an "order number" under attributes. Is this where I should put it?

Nope, you go to your WP-Dashboard and then to Pages.

Move your mouse over a page and look towards
the bottom of your browser, you should see something like:

      http //www barbraling com/wp-admin/page.php?action=edit&post=4

See that post=4? That's the page number of that particular, well, page.

      Hope that helps!
