OTO before or after the first purchase?

Hello,

I am working really hard on our offer and I think we will have two upsells and one downsell. I am thinking of doing all this before payment. What do you recommend? What is your experience?

Is it better to present your offer as soon as the customer has clicked on the buy button or after she's made her purchase?

    Just a personal opinion here...

I get the initial sale and then go for the upsell. Why? because I already have someone who has taken out their CC or hopped to their PP account - I KNOW they are a buyer. Plus - I can get them on my list now and then try the upsell again later.

If I try and upsell them first, they can always just close the window.

    Hi,

Always get the sale first, then begin your backend sales from there. Get the email address added to a list (buyers) in the process and go from there. Like winebuddy said, once you get the first sale, then work them from there.

    Thanks,

    John

    Hello Winebuddy and John,

OK! I understand your point. Maybe I did not express myself properly?
Maybe I don't understand what an upsell is. In my case it is just to increase the overall price of the first sale. I cannot make a huge package after that. We will just have to move them towards continuity.

I have 3 options for the book we are going to sell.
    The book (price)
the book+memos containing secret info not disclosed in the book (price+$15)
the book+memos+videos that show you how to do everything (price+$45)

so it is just a different package.
I am also thinking of doing things like this
    book+memos (price)
the book+memos+videos that show you how to do everything (price+$30)
    download just the book (price-$15)

The downsell would appear as customers leave the page.

In each scenario I can offer each package at a different specific time.
From what you are saying I should try to sell the book at a smaller price. Get them as customers and then offer the other stuff.
    Is that correct?
