Help Merging Audio Using Audacity by Soundforge

I wish to create a seamless recording for a photo slideshow consisting of the following:

1) A piece of intro music
2) An introduction that I have recorded describing what is in the slideshow
3) A testimonial from the people in the slideshow (a wedding couple)
4) A piece of extro music with voice over by me

Where can I find a tutorial about how to do this using Audacity? I wish to fade the music as my voice comes in, then have the testimonial run on its own, then introduce the extro at the end of the testimonial with a short wrap up voice over by me.

Many Thanks for any suggestions offered

    Hey CK,

This is pretty easy to do in Audacity.

First, open up each piece of audio on a separate track (File > Import > Audio).

To move an individual track back or forward on the timeline, click the "time shift" icon at the top of the program (the left/right arrow icon), then grab the track with the mouse and move it.

To make a fade in or fade out, click the "selection tool" icon at the top of the program (the one the looks like "I"), then use the mouse to select the part to be faded (where the audio's waveform is displayed), then click Effect > Fade In / Fade Out.

You'll notice a volume control for each track to the left of the waveform. The more tracks you have, the lower the volume for each track will need to be, so that the overall volume isn't too loud/distorted.

To record a voiceover, plug in your mic and click the black down arrow button next to the microphone icon at the top of the program, and select "start monitoring". Then talk into the mic while adjusting the mic input volume fader at the top right of the program, until you get a good level (you may have to change the "input source" from the drop down menu at the top right).

When you're ready to record, place the cursor where you want it and hit the record button (the round red one at the top left of the program).

Note: If you're not getting an audio signal from the mic in Audacity, go to Edit > Preferences > Devices, and make sure that the proper recording and playback devices are selected.

Those were pretty simplified instructions, but hope it helps. If you need something more detailed just Google "Audacity tutorials". There are tons of tutorials out there.
