Improving Page Rank

Hi there,

Just a quick question - can somebody point me to a step-by-step system for improving a websites page rank please? I have had my sites given the once over by a couple of people who basically tell me that my sites are not going to do well because their page rank is zero and the alexa rank well over five million

I thought I was doing some of the right things to improve this - articles in EZA, Squidoo pages, HubPages and my blog all have links that point back to my sites, but obviously I am still missing something -

First you should question the advice of the person who said:

"The site won't do well because it doesn't have page rank and the alexa is over 5 million"

Second you should ask the question: "Why do I even WANT to improve my page rank?"

Increasing page rank isn't going to make you more money, it's not even necessarily going to get you more traffic.

I say keep doing what you're doing, article submissions, hub sites, a blog etc That stuff will all help you create traffic, and if you get a little page rank, it's a bonus but it's not a prerequisite for anything important.

If you really want to optimize your site better which might help your REAL PR grow more quickly, it sounds like you're working on the linking (off page) factors fine, so some attention to the on page factors might help.

Go through and look at all the links on the pages of your site:

1. Minimize some of your outgoing links that aren't serving a purpose, or in the least, put a rel=nofollow tag on them.

2. Make sure every page on your site is linked to from at least one other page so they can all get crawled.

3. Make sure every page is linking back to your home page. (and keep the links that link in between pages of your site as FOLLOW links)

And we could go on.

Remember in general that the "spider juice" gets distributed across your site through your internal links, so control that where you can.

Now you mention it I could have been spending more time on the off-site stuff and not enough on the pages themselves - your tips are really useful and not something I had even considered
