You don't typically need a PayPal account at all for affiliate marketing since most vendors send checks or direct deposit. For those that require Paypal, a personal account should be sufficient.

A Paypal account isn't necessary if you're an affiliate marketer. Most affiliate networks will either stroke you a check or deposit your funds via direct deposit.

If you use paypal for business then you should absolutely upgrade. It cost nothing and only takes a few minutes.

There have been lots of posts here with people upset that their accounts have been frozen or limited. And, the number one cause is they use their personal account to conduct business. While some say it is OK to just keep using your personal account, once you start making lots of transactions, getting payments, and withdrawing all the time, then red flags will go up at paypal. but if it is a business account then it is to be expected.

Don't play this game with Paypal. It's a game you will lose. You're using it for business reasons, so get a business account. If you can get paid directly instead of using Paypal, then do that. But if you must have payment through Paypal, then just do it right.

            The rule is...

A personal account is not to be used for business purposes.

Do people get away with it for a while? Yes.

Are those same people pissed off when Paypal freezes their account (without warning) for having broken Paypal's Terms of Service? Yes - but it's too late.

            Need I say more?

For the sake of business, upgrade to a Paypal Business Account. If you're doing affiliate marketing, most of the time the affiliate network will cut you a check and mail it to you, or will send you a direct deposit. But there are some network where the vendor themselves can send you your commission immediately via Paypal.

For serious internet marketing you will need a business account, but first of all your business have to be serious - PayPal account shouldn't be your first concern. Besides, PayPal isn't the only solution out there to get paid.
