Why the Sudden Rise in Spam Posts?

Hey Warriors

So I don't know if it's just me, but recently I've seen way more spam posts hit the main forum. I know there's always been a few spam posts here and there over the course of weeks, but recently it's been like a couple a day. Personally I think that any post in the main forum that has a link should be verified by admins before submission, to prevent it altogether. If it's non-promotional it shouldn't be a problem. Thoughts?

I've seen a few of them pop up last night.

Had someone ask a question and someone
replied with their squeeze page link that had
nothing to do with what the OP was asking.

So I understand what you mean.

It would be a good idea to have a verification
process for links posted in the Main section.

A couple a day??? I personally report more than that, and have for months.
If you are only seeing a couple a day, count your lucky stars.

On the surface, it sounds like a good idea, but...
review/approval of posts before they are published would
    1. greatly increase the work load on the moderators, thereby reducing their ability to keep up with the real offenders, and
    2. the approval process would greatly interfere with the "conversational" flow of threads that attract any high degree of interest.

There will always be some amount of spam introduced into a free forum, but you'd be hard-pressed to come up with anything that improves managements' current method of handling the problem.

edit - Immediately after posting this... I had to report a garcinia ad

Automated postings are definitely seen from time to time.

That not only gets the offending post deleted, but the member is banned entirely, so their advertising message(s) are very short-lived and they quickly realize that their efforts are fruitless.
