I wish I could show you one of my first websites. I did it back in the 1990s using Microsoft's FrontPage.

I was heavily into photoshop techniques back then and went hog-wild with it.

When you went to my "splash page" using a very complicated web address on the Tripod network, you were met with a 3D skull with a blinking light bulb in one eye socket.

Back then, you couldn't just upload one large image... it would take forever to load... so, you had to break it up into a bunch of little images and watch it puzzle itself together.

    It sucked SO BAD. LOL.

In my opinion website designs that suck are those who create their sales pages on free hosting sites like weebly (weebly does not suck but it's just an example of a site that provides you with a free web space), use big text, use multiple colored text, etc...

    See example below.

I wonder if these guys even make a dime from an eyesore like that.

My very first site had the background a sheet of notebook paper. Then i tried to align the text on every new line on the background so that it would look neat. It was a disaster, so was my offer. And my web copy sucked.

Sometimes, it might suck by design.

To DISCOURAGE some people from becoming customers. If the design does that, then it may have been exactly what was needed.

I remember 7 years ago Grizzley Brears had that ugly blog pulling in $25K a month with Adsense. Of course that is not really relevant today with Google and the changes. But sometimes ugly sites have served a purpose

Ahh, the good ol' days when all you needed to impress someone was a spinning logo, dancing exclamation point or flame effect.

Thank goodness you don't see black backgrounds with animated neon text anymore, with or without blinking skull...
