Is it young people who have driven the massive growth of Twitter? Not exactly...

This is an interesting blog post, not just because it explores the phenomenal growth of Twitter.

It also breaks down the use of Facebook and MySpace by age.

And then explores throughout history how at various time frames the circumstances become ripe for mega-successes.

I would argue this is the right time for each of us smart people to create our own mega success stories.

Hey Dan, thanks for the share. I think he nailed it on the head as I've only been on the internet for about 5 years or so and kind of adapted to it but these kids who grow up with it just take it as something they always had so it's nothing special. Well that and the fact that their parents may be on social networking automatically makes it uncool LOL.

Also interesting that 14 of the 75 names of the wealthiest people were all born within 9 years of each other. May be something to that...

    That's funny, Cuzin

It reminds me I was surprised what it talks about how the young people have not gone from texting to tweeting - maybe because as you suggest what the parents are doing isn't cool.

A friend has a friend with about a 22-year-old daughter who texted something like 3,300 messages last month and found herself with a $180+ bill.

I figured that's about 9 messages an hour on average she's awake.

(Also, as marketers, it points to the value of getting on people's cell phones, especially if we want to reach young people!)

In contrast, I doubt I ever used more than half the 400 I have in my plan. And over the last five months on Twitter, I only have 1,300 some tweets.

    Warmly,
    Dan
