Do you love the Simpsons? Need help monetising!

I am the web developer and SEO consultant for a popular Simpsons Podcast here in Australia.

They have over 60,000 Facebook followers, get around 80,000 sessions on the website per month, and have around 5000 downloads per podcast.

With these numbers some $$ should be flowing.

What's your best ideas for monetising an industry that has very strict copywrite laws?

Looking into affiliate sites but not sure which one to go with, plus long term they will be producing merch, but any quick wins with the traffic they have now would be nice!

With that kind of traffic I'd probably look into offering paid advertising, both in banner ads on the website and spoken advertising during the podcasts.

It's hard to monetize a humor oriented fan site with affiliate marketing.

People on here are going to tell you to build a list--and I'm not saying you shouldn't--but you still have the same problems.

Hook up with a vendor who has "paid the price" to sell licensed merchandise. It won't be much, but a fast start. So, who is currently selling Bart dolls, for example? Couldn't you offer them a banner or something and get a little commission.

Do avoid copyRight problems, they have built a huge wall of protection around their brand, and with the deep pockets to defend their Trademarks and Copyrights. Stay above board and pay the fees...a long term strategy but for now, just offer ads to those who are licensed.

Networking with Vendors is the key.

I would also look into merchandising other "Adult" cartoons such as Family Guy and Archer to name a couple.

We have reached out to a couple of people selling simpsons gear currently but they were not interested. It's really tough!

Building a list is on the agenda but until we have something to push onto them there's no rush.

Any suggestions for the best banner ads etc. We wouldn't mind looking into the 'sponsored content' route. The thing you see at the bottom of blogs with like 'Around the web' but not exactly sure who provides those services.

    Thanks for the replies.
