Can I change domain name after

I found a domain that has had 2 registrars in the past with 2 drops its a 10 year old domain with a couple links and I did a background check on it and it seems pretty clean so far. What I wanted to know is can I change the domain name to a completely new domain name after I have developed the site, and if so, how would that affect my traffic? The domain I'm looking at isn't the name I would like although it does contain my main keyword but I don't have time to sit in the sandbox right now so I need an expired domain.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, but I think it's possible to have a completely new domain name for an old site. You can simply redirect your old domain to the new one.

IMO, expired domains carry almost no advantage whatsoever unless it is a very short easily monetized name.

But yes, you can change the domain of your site whenever you want.

You said: "The domain I'm looking at isn't the name I would like..." That being the case, why not just register a new name with no baggage? I think you're under the mistaken impression that an expired domain will help you.

Just start fresh with the domain that your really want, build your site on it, and be done with it.

From what I've researched buying a expired domain helps a ton, as their is a waiting period of around 4-6 months for new domains regardless of how good your site is and how many back links you build etc. Spencer from niche pursuits is just one case study where someone got a website to rank on the first page in a short period of time, he has a case study where he got a website to rank #1 in just over 2 months, thats not possible with a new domain and if it is I would definitely like to know how.

    Why not start from scratch?

Create a whole new site with your desired domain name.

You could still get a lot of traffic if you're worried about that matter because it's really all about t content.

Yes you can change the domain name afterwards by doing a 301 redirect. This should maintain any link juice you got.
