Content Feeds For My Website

Hi there,

Just wondering if there are services out there that provide feeds so I can ad content to my website. Say it's about health there must be a lot of different articles and feeds I can import into my website automatically correct?

I'm not talking about ghost writing or taking credit for these articles just interesting articles my readers would find interesting. What is this service called? "Feed Provider"?? Please let me know.

Thanks! J

Are there any content feed networks out there anyone can recommend where the content is allowed to be used in a feed and I don't have to concern myself with copyright infringement? Does Google frown upon this practice? What else should I know about this before proceeding? Thanks! J

EzineArticles.com has RSS feeds for various topics. As long as you follow the rules, you can import these feeds. I'm sure there are other similar sites, but I'm not aware of any dedicated networks.

Does Google frown on the practice? It depends on how you do it. What you may find is that, while they don't "frown" (penalize) the practice, they may very well simply ignore it as not adding value to the user experience.

Another thing you should be aware of is that unless you exercise some control, you may find yourself posting a lot of crap articles intended to garner backlinks rather than providing any value to readers.

I think the practice you're thinking of is autoblogging, and doing it well is much more difficult than simply installing WP and adding a scraper plugin.

So how do you tell if you're doing it well?

If someone can tell it's an autoblog, you're not.

Edit: You may be able to get feeds from news release sites like PRWeb, but the same warning applies. Any site or service that accepts any and all submissions is likely to have a very high mud/gold ratio - lots of mud, very little gold.

If your goal is to rank in Google, then you're better off with unique articles. It's debatable whether the search engine penalizes duplicate content but you can never go wrong with unique.

If that's not your goal, then using certain auto blogging software can do the work by pulling in articles in from the article directories, etc.

    From Google (about syndicating content):

If you syndicate your content on other sites, Google will always show the version we think is most appropriate for users in each given search, which may or may not be the version you'd prefer.

While using syndicated content from other sources might not hurt your search engine rankings, it might not help either.

Just make sure that where ever you get your content from, you have explicit permission to use it.

There are plenty of RSS feeds that allow syndication, and even scripts that can share that content automatically.

But my question would be why?

Syndicated content can be a good idea, but I wouldn't make it more than 25% of my posts (at the absolute max). Building a following and growing rankings needs to be done with your own content -- you have to add some form of unique value.

I have a lot of blogs, and I make at least 2 quality posts a day. Each of those takes me about 45 minutes, so an hour and a half of my time each day isn't a ton to ask.

Granted, I've formulated my writing method to be as efficient as possible. But I wouldn't recommend taking shortcuts in this area.

If anything, syndicated content could be best used to add value to your email lists / social following.
