What Do You Do After You Have Hit a Wall With a Website?

After a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, I finally have a website earning good money. However, the money has been pretty stagnant for months now, and I seem to have hit a wall. I was wondering what other people do when they encounter this?

Do you keep pushing forward and try to earn even more money from your website, or do you start a second project and try to emulate the success of the first? Also, do you find you often hit a wall like this in a niche? Is there only so much audience you can attract, and it becomes harder to earn more money after a certain point?

My current thoughts are putting the website in maintenance mode, and only adding to it occasionally. Even when I leave it completely alone, the traffic tends to stay steady Once that's done, I'll start working on another niche authority site.

But any tips or personal experience relating to what you think the best course of action is would be greatly appreciated.

There are several factors to consider, the most "obvious" being the niche (as you mentioned).

Do you know how large that niche is? Are there influencers in that space with a much larger audience than you?

If there are, I wouldn't say that you've necessarily hit your limit with traffic but that suggests you need to find ways to either increase the efficiency of the traffic methods you're currently doing or you should look into additional methods.

If you know that it's a small niche, then there might not be as much scalability in traffic, especially from the social sharing side of things.

As for the monetization aspect of your site, are you building an email list from that traffic and following up effectively?

Often, you can push past the "wall" by just increasing the customer value of the traffic you're already getting.

You could bring in more money with your site by creating a membership site and making residual income. Another idea depending on your niche is to create and add some sort of high ticket offer to your funnel.

First, figure out why it hit the wall. If it's affiliate marketing or selling products on your website, then rest assured it's the traffic quality. Perhaps it's best to wait it out since it was earning money. You might have to expand your traffic source.

If it's Adsense on your site, then maybe people are using Ad Blockers.

      This.

It's not that complicated to fix income-stagnation in your business.

For example- now that you are earning from organic visitors, you can now invest in paid advertising with the profits and expand- alleviating the bottleneck.

      Think non-linearly.

    1. Review your content and see what you can add by asking who, what, when, where, how and why questions.

Read your content slowly and really be critical asking these questions about everything.

Example: You have a page about an Acme ice cream maker where you talk in depth about the product. What can you add about Acme? Or ice cream makers in general? Or comparisons to other products? Or a fun page about ice cream and its history?

    2. Get a fresh keyword list from the Google Keyword Planner and plenty of free sites available elsewhere.

Now compare that list to your content to generate ideas for topics you are currently missing or light on.

    3. What about new traffic sources? Have you tapped all possible traffic? Newsletter. Facebook, etc.

    4. If everything is exhausted ... new project time.

Without knowing what the niche actually is it is difficult to comment-what are you using to derive the income, Adsense, eBooks, software, advertising?

How could you diversify the products being offered, is there a service you could offer, can you see a spin-off to the niche, a further iteration of the topic?

Unless the site is making over 3K a month you need to do more, build on the success in the same niche or begin another project-sell the site for a modest profit and commence a more substantial project.
Lateral thought, imagination and diversification is the way forward.

If you are selling a product, why not try selling the same thing but in a different format? This way, you can get more sales from your existing traffic.

For example, if you are selling an ebook, turn that into a video product or an audio product. Some people prefer one medium over another. This is also relatively easy to do, since you already have the bulk of the work done. These other mediums could be sold as standalone products or you could offer them as upsells.
