Silly question about wordpress

Hi,

I will make an online store for dropshipping (aliexpress) and I bought the plugin. Now I do not understand why I need to buy hosting for wordpress because I have a blog (on Blogger) and I do not pay any hosting for it.
Why at wordpress is different?

Would it be of help if soembody could recommend me what template to use for an online store, I did not see any on Wordpress.

Oh, it is difficult to be a beginner.

Thanks a lot!!!!

Well, first of all, the plugin you bought isn't going to work on blogger. But more importantly, if you are going to start a business, you need to treat it like a business. A free blog that is not owned by you is no place to host your business website.

You need to get your own hosting and own domain that you control. This is a very small expense compared to starting almost any other kind of business. And a dropshipping store is most certainly not something to be hosted on a free blogging platform.

So, are you starting a business or not? Are you taking this seriously or not? Dropshipping isn't something to just dabble in on a free website. There is real work involved and serious business decisions to be made that can cost you many thousands of dollars. Do you want it to be wiped away by blogger in an instant?

The cost of hosting and a domain is very small compared to the money you are going to be spending and losing making bad choices in a dropshipping business.

You asked why you had to pay for hosting instead of using a free site like blogger. That was the answer as to why you need to pay for hosting instead of using any of the free platforms, whether it's blogger, wordpress, or any of the others. It was your question.

    Which Plugin did you purchase?

I have been looking into this as well but most of the plugins I have looked at are focused around affiliate marketing for Ali not and actual dropship store.

WordPress content management system is a vastly different platform to the blogger/and .com version of wordpress, I think this is where you are getting confused (you are not the first one) - You need to host the .org version of WordPress because this is designed to be a stand alone website which you own exclusively and manage-I would take in some WordPress CMS training before you attempt setting this up, don't fly blind, get some skills.

Blogger - so here is the issue.

Blogger is owned by google. You might "think" you own your site, but you don't. At anytime your site can be taken down by them.

If you are starting your own business, then you need your own domain and your own hosting. You need to have full control.

So you will want to buy your own domain (10 bucks or so) and you will want to get your own hosting (this is only 80-120 a year) which can be what's called a shared hosting account.

Wordpress has 2 things. There is wordpress.com which you do not want because that is owned by wordpress. Then they offer up their software for free that you can install at your own host, and this is on wordpress.org.

If you are buying plugins like aliexpress and such these are for your wordpress site - and those too will not work on wordpress.com for 2 reasons. First off you can not upload those on the wordpress.com and secondly wordpress.com is not meant for commercial sites. It's meant for the most part for personal free non advertising blogs.

If you are using aliexpress they actually show you that you can use any free template for wordpress. I am using a free theme for a site which uses that plugin. They give you some videos in the members area that go over finding a theme I believe.

Be aware that managing wordpress on the backend is not the same as blogger. The set up will be slightly different.

Thanks a lot for your help.
I saw it is more difficult to handle Wordpress than blogger last night when trying to install it. I do not know why they made it complicated. I learn every day...yes. I know I have to learn.

      Thanks.

      Jill is correct

The blogging platform is WordPress.com, and like blggger.com they own any content you publish on their platform

Through a pay-for hosting site, like cPanel (i.e. Hostgator) you can run your domain through a WordPress.org platform, and thus you will own all your content. You can still upload any plugin etc. that you like from WordPress.com or anywhere else. You still have access to all the WP.com facilities, but uploaded through your own platform

YOU, not Google or anyone else, will own your content.

It's a common point of confusion between WordPress.com and WordPress.org

forget blogger, Google can come along and rain all over your parade anytime it wants

buy a domain and hosting. then quick install wordpress

after that, install the woocommerce plugin for free and you're all done.

The good people have said it all. It is not just a case of build it and they will come - because you're only one in several billion websites and you will just get overlooked unless you have a unique idea and a way of getting people to see everything you have on offer.

Be prepared to learn (a lot), get sidetracked by others (all the time) and overwhelmed by all that you think you have to do. Take things one step at a time and if you really get stuck, ask again. There's real help here and much of it for free. There's some good people out there who really do know what they're talking about.

i think you are expecting to pay a dollar and get 500 in return. What you are attempting to do is e-Commerce and it involves a TON of various skills from setting up a website, product research, keyword research, marketing, SEO and the list goes on. You cannot expect to setup a FREE site, add a plugin and the dollars to come rolling in.

    Hi,

I tried to set up a blog with wordpress.org. I found it difficult and time consuming. My solution was to get a mentor. Still I had to work a lot to get it installed. If you are in a hurry and not an expert in computers you should consider getting a mentor. There are lot of people that can help if you are willing to pay a little fee.

When I started I didn't know the difference between wordpress.org and wordpress.com! I was very soon told that to have a site that is safe and your own you have to use wordpress.org.

How to find a good mentor? I really don't know. I had a good mentor but he isn't doing it anymore. There must be someone in this forum who knows to find a good one!

    Kind regards

This Wordpress confusion crops up a lot. Here's the simple way through the minefield:

Wordpress.com hosts your Wordpress blog for you. However it is very limited in what you can do. Also your content comes under Wordpress scrutiny. They can close your account if they don't like what they see.

Wordpress.org is where you can register to use all the Wordpress attributes, help and functionality. You can also download a Wordpress install there.

    HOWEVER

Wordpress is usually a one click install from your CPanel once you have your own hosting account.

Just scroll down CPanel to the bottom and look for the one click or auto install icons. It's literally one click to install Wordpress from there.

Then, log in to your new blog and choose a theme, install your plugin and away you go.
