Submitting site to google webmaster tools

One of close internet marketing friends, who is quite successful and knowledgeable in this business, has advised me against adding my niche website to the google webmaster tools. His contention is that when you are submitting yourself to Google, you are just allowing yourself to put under their scanner so that if you are using PBNs etc, a manual review will land you in trouble. Any thoughts on this?

My thoughts are that you wouldn't have to worry about this if you weren't doing anything wrong in the first place. That's the thing about trying to game the system, doing blackhat stuff, etc. You know the hammer's going to come down on you and you're always paranoid about how and when.

There are several benefits to using Webmaster Tools. But if you're doing the things that you're obviously doing, it wouldn't be wise. Then again, it's not wise to be doing those things you're already doing either and that hasn't stopped you.

My advice (which I'm pretty sure you won't take) would be to stop the blackhat stuff and take advantage of the benefits of Webmaster Tools.

Don't use the same google account for your main website and google webmaster tools. You will create a footprint for this thing. You can use some indexed service. If you're in a tight budget, let's ping by some free tool as pingfarm.com
