My 1st Post - Can I monetise these 4500+ job applicants... Detailed post inside... Thanks in advance

Hi guys, first post here so thanks for reading and thank you in advance for any replies!

Basically I have a friend who makes money through Amazon. He writes articles and reviews about products then earns a commission if someone buys through his links.

Recently he got to an income point where he decided to outsource some writing on a per article basis just to get some different writing styles for different products he wants to promote.

The way he sees it, someone really passionate about video games will give a better more passionate article than he does since he has no interest in video games at all.

Anyway he has 5 new niche''s he would like to get into and as such asked me to help him find some writers.

So not really knowing any better I place the positions on actual job sites rather than (after researching a bit too late haha) freelance sites.

So here I am, happily listing away on job sites here in the UK. With a pretty descriptive, info packed job.

Stating everything truthfully and accurately. Some of the things in the listing were.

-- Writing for a content marketing company who makes money through commissions.

-- Writing 750 to 1500 + word articles on a per article basis at £20 - £40 per article.

-- Earning 10% of the commission made from their articles for the whole time they continue to write for him.

-- Receiving a free laptop after 6 months continuous work with the company.

-- Getting an insight into how he makes the money he does.

So he only needed 5 however since posting the job there have been over 4500 applicants who keep on increasing even though the positions have been filled.

He is happy now he has his writers, however after reading around a lot and wanting to try Internet marketing myself... I am thinking of trying to build a list from these people and getting myself set up.

I can access my friends knowledge any time to ask about the ins and outs of that he does and create a short guide to give all none successful applicants a little thank you gift for applying and add them to an actual auto responder list, rather than just a massive database of emails containing cv''s.

I've had a good read and researched a lot of things and here's what I've come up with.

-- Set up a lead capture page with a high quality content / affiliate marketing guide.

-- Personally reply to everyone who applied by email. Thanking them for applying, telling them unfortunately they were unsuccessful. However since they were interested in the job ad that maybe they'd like the free guide we have prepared on how my buddy makes money.

-- Sign up to an affiliate program... Wealthy Affiliate looks good because they can get a fair bit of info related to what my buddy does, completely free. Then potentially make some money from upgrades on a recurring basis.

Anyway that's my idea, do you think it is viable?

Thanks for reading this far and thanks for the help if you chime in.

Kind regards,

Mark.

Did he screen all the applicants?

Did he grade them in a way that was recorded?

He could sell that information to other hiring firms--"Here are a bunch of service providers I've already gone through for you. I've noted the truly incompetent and the stellar candidates I simply didn't have spots to hire, and all that value is here for you."

He could segment the list, roughly, into two or three categories--people who have figured their niche out and are doing well at it (Cat 1), people who have chosen a niche but haven't been successful yet (2), and people who are a basket case without a target (3)...and then market to them. To make everything on the up and up, I would have them re-opt in to the new list.

Should be pretty easy for you to figure out what each Category type would need in terms of help. Match the offer to the niche.

      Hello Jason,

Thanks for the reply, it's certainly something to look into.

The only screening we done was a sample article with very anal instructions.

So far everyone has completed the test article. How would you go about segmenting them?

3 different lists, one for each category?

Oh and number 3s description is pretty funny.

      Kind regards,

      Mark.

      Jason,

I think this would be a big mistake unless the applicants were specifically told that their applications containing private information would be sold to 3rd party companies. It would be very rare if this were the case.

You can segment them, or send them a request through your autoresponder to confirm to a new list...obviously, tell them why they're doing that.

I'd keep it simple: two or three categories only. Your first real segmentation is into those who are looking for/open to help, and those who are not.

I would think "How to sell your writing skills online" might go over well.

Thanks for the replies guys, so the general consensus here is that I should utilise the list I have and at least try something.

Anyone have any good free resources on email marketing and or squeeze pages?

I've read a fair bit before posting here however I know I am a complete novice in the grand scale of things.

I'm gonna give this a go but I'm going to research a bit before I dive in.

You don't even need a landing page.

Step 1 > find out who wants help

Step 2 > offer them that help.

You can do it in the email with a buy link.

"Do you have this problem?" Of course they do. They said so.

        "Here's the solution: Buy Button."

        Doesn't have to be complicated.

Use a tripwire product first to find out who has a credit card and the authorization to use it. Offer an upsell to the ones who buy, where you offer more support, a bigger & deeper solution.

I'm confused. Is there an actual job they're applying for, or are you just taking applicants for the sole purpose of adding them to your email list?

There were 5 positions for article writers which have been filled however I am looking to utilise the applicants.

Are you still accepting applications (now under false pretenses)? While I'm a bit ambivalent about marketing to job applicants gained through a job listing site, continuing to collect job applicants for the sole purpose of putting them on a marketing list seems more than a little skeezy to me.

This is how I feel. Once the 5 positions are filled, the job listing should be taken down. People were applying for a writing position, not signing up for an affiliate marketing course.

Yes and no, basically we paid for a sponsored advert on one site and to close the job advert you have to contact the administration team... This has long since been done however the post is still live, albeit just a regular advert now that the sponsored period is expired.

I have actually applied for jobs through this site in the past and run into the same problem. Basically contacting employers only to be told that the job which is still live on line is gone even though they have asked for it to be removed.

I would say your correct in adding them to a autoresponder. That way you can keep selling to them and the list is not just going to waste. So your on the right track.

These writers can easily be trained to become affiliates and earning commissions that would pay them alot more than article writing.

Could be trained free to sell your products or you can create a product to offer them that teaches them the skills to become affilates.

Hi Hard Work, Is there a website your friend uses so I can contact him about writing gigs? I would be interested in the future and to be put on the list for future jobs.

    Cheers

you can do a lot of good things with a list of 4500+ applicants, you're idea of collecting their data looks good but they may not be interested in your free guide.
