What's the purpose of LinkedIn? Does it really help people get hired somewhere?

Yes, that was its primary true purpose. I've been interviewed and hired from LI postings back when I was a corporate employee.

What is less commonly known is LI is one of the top content publishing platforms.

I have to say that in the past several years LI has become a spamfest of fake accounts. A couple years ago I uncovered a huge ring of fake profiles in the auto repair field and reported what I thought it was. Turned out I was right. Why someone felt they needed that, I don't know.

I rarely approve new contacts now unless they message me and I know they are a real human being.

Personally I've never really figured out LI Groups. LI has been termed "Facebook For Grownups" but I haven't seen it. They seem to be self-serving for the owner, or wide open spam forums. Haven't found any with genuine discussions of depth, though I also have to admit I quit looking.

Regardless of all that, the content publishing side of things is still a winner. I'm looking back into this myself now.

Linkedin is social networking for professionals. It's basically like having an online resume that millions of people can see. Depending on your skills and experience, many people get jobs through Linkedin. My wife, for example, is always being contacted by recruiters because she has a very specific skill that is in demand right now. I'm on Linkedin as well and use it for networking with others.

Used properly, it can pay huge dividends.

Yes LinkedIn can help you to get hired somewhere. But alot of marketers use it to target fellow business owners who may need help with their marketing. But as with any other social networking site, you still have to join groups, connect with people, participate with others, and develop friendships or partnerships with others.

LinkedIn a social network for employees and companies. The company itself has grown rapidly in recent years; publishing a lot of useful content for different industries.
