I have recently got into freelancing online. I am a web designer and currently getting around 3k visits a month which I know isn't a whole lot.

I am really stuck with ideas on capturing those leads for a web designer. Some people suggest email marketing but I can really only see that working for a product not a service. Any tips

I know quite a number of people that run service based businesses online and they all do email marketing. I think you are wrong in saying it won't work.

I have a friend that runs a local gas station. He uses email marketing in all sorts of ways and his customers appreciate his personal contact with them. He sends out reminders when maintenance items are due. He give coupons via email for specials on services performed. He emails tips on preparing cars for winter weather.

I don't care what kind of service you run . . . email marketing can be effective if you focus on what's best for your subscribers.

The reason that you think email marketing will not work is because your thought process is wrong.

You first send your traffic to a squeeze page and offer them value for free. After you get them on your list, you build up credibility and trust by sending more stuff of value.

After you have nurtured your list, then you can sell them your services.

Your approach sounds good. But, offering value for free to your visitors is a lot easier with products than services.

In this case, can you post some examples how the OP can offer value for free? He is a web designer.
I know it's possible, but some examples will probably help him.

Well for instance he could send them a short video talking about the best design approaches, comparing the websites from the early '2000's' when a static brochure, or online business card was the approach-to those of today being dynamic marketing machines, integrating social media & generating leads through offering value to the visitor-a series on color co-ordination, how to implement email marketing with your website-SEO services and added value.
A website is not just one thing, it is many things joined together, with different functions-the 'web design' is only the beginning, why do people have websites? To build an online presence and market their businesses, so there are a whole range of topics to explore and offer value through email with!

Congratulations on your business. 3K visitors is actually a good amount of visits.

As a web designer, you can use email marketing to provide free web design tips to your subscribers. This will help brand yourself as an authority in the field. You can also give them free resources, like graphics you created. People like free stuff.

No I think Email Marketing is a good idea for services too.

3,000 visitors a day is good if those visitors are 'targeted' (people who will buy your product AKA...webdesign services.

Many larger corporations are doing email marketing to market their services as well as products.

I get emails from First Choice Hair Cutters (a big corp here in Canada) and Mr Lube (another big automobile 'oil' change corp).
