I was just reading a book on conversion and it says that, according to studies, your conversions will increase by adding a red border around your Buy Now buttons. Also, if you add an effect where the red border turns green when you mouse over the button, your conversion rates will increase even more.

I didn't know this. Do you believe it?

Oh yes, I do believe it. I've seen it happen. Sometimes the tiniest changes have major impact on how well your page converts. Did you know that top copywriters often get paid thousands of dollars just to come up with headlines for sales letters and pages, because the difference between a good and a great headline can be huge in terms of sales?

Some say even the change of one single word here and there can make all the difference. It's a science, copywriting.

Yep I've heard this. I can't remember exactly who I heard it form, but it was someone who had actually used the technique and had seen it make a significant difference to their conversions.
Supposedly it's to do with the whole traffic light thing - Red for stop, Green for go...ie hover over the button, it turns green, so go ahead, press it!

I believe it to an extent. Yes it could increase conversions but it would depend on all the different factors.

I will say this from experimenting and from others I know that have tested these theories is Graphics can make you or break you.

Test them out and make sure you track conversions and clickthroughs. This will tell you for sure if the new graphics or small changes are making a difference or not.

I'm sure it's true - just check what you look at on an average page! The sooner and faster someone sees something - the higher the potential for conversion.
