Music Marketing?

I have been looking around the Internet for about 2 years. I'm new to marketing and making money online. What I don't see is marketing solutions for recording artist. Things such as a way for them to increase their fan base and traffic to their sites to increase sales of their music. Anybody have any ideas?

    I have used twitter, I promoted my myspace page and got 10 320 hits within ten months,
    (not bad for free traffic) Then you just put links on your website for your album (get a shopping cart and sync it with paypal or whatever your using) Also...
    Check out a book called "the indie band bible" its amazing!

      Hi there, and welcome. I manage a 12yo singer songwriter here in new Zealand, and we have more than 30 websites, pages where he is acticley promoted.

      I set the sites and profiles up and his dad handles the daily grind of responding to comments, and inviting people to join up. Our best success has come from a site called Reverb Nation, www.reverbnation.com where they have like a one stop shop for msicians, and ONLY musicians & music. There are active fans, more than 400,000 artists globally, and labels & venues as well. They provide a free service with small fees for extras like Press Release kits, Marketing and other concepts.

      In the 4 months I have had Ethan on there www.reverbnation.com/ethan2rock we have gone to number 1 on the local charts for both rock and all genres, and number 3 in the country for all genres. We have amassed more than 5000 fans now, and this site interacts with both Myspace and Facebook, along with Bebo and others.
