If you aren't using security seals on your site (McAfee and Trust-Guard are just two examples) you're missing out.
I recently added Trust-Guard seals (highly recommended - no affiliation or other interest) and my conversion rate increased noticeably with immediate effect. It's probably even more important on my site because I serve a mature, non-techie market, but I'm sure it will pay off on any ecommerce site. The funny thing is, security should not even be an issue on my site because buyers go to a secure Paypal order page, but it still works. Aside from the actual transaction security it shows that my business is verified with a real physical address, phone number and email address. This gives people confidence. Trust-Guard testimonials claim up to 59% increase in conversion and my experience shows they're probably legit. Internet marketing has been getting a lot of bad press lately and visitor confidence is more important than ever if you're going to close that sale. |

Interesting thought. I put a 1 800 # and BBB on mine and that worked well. I am always looking to increase conversion so I wonder if a security seal (which is a non-issue for me as well) would help more.

I would say this is very case dependent, we added them to our sites and saw no overall difference in conversions.
Still at a tin $30ish a month , it's worth a try. |

Yes, the value of it depends a bit on your market. Younger people and the IM market are used to online purchases. But it really paid off with my market.
I think an 800 number and BBB approval are also helpful in the same way. With that going for you I don't know if you need more seals. |

My market is a health niche serving mostly middle-age and above. It's a good mixture of people and many of them are not technical nor experienced much on the Internet. They're naturally suspicious.
Mukul, I would guess that your market is fairly technical and would recognize that they are going to a secure payment page when they order. Your BBB approval would show that your business is legit. So I can't predict what security seals will do for you. You may need to look at other things to boost your conversion. Still, it can't hurt to test the results. Trust-Guard has a 60 day money back guarantee. I started with the $37 package with three seals. I think it's enough but I can always upgrade. |

I can definitely say that security and privacy seals can increase your conversion rates. For almost every web based business the increase in sales should pay for the seal service many times over.
If you are considering a security seal, be sure the company that provides your seals actually tests your site. There are several seal companies that will give you a seal without any test at all. You don't want to join the 130,000 websites hacked in just the last week. Having a vulnerable site get hacked is far worse for your business than having a bad conversion rate. If anyone is interested in trying out a trust/privacy seal, please PM me. Thanks to all the help I have received from these forums, I am offering any Warrior Forum member a 60 day free trial to test on their own site. |
