Restaurant Marketing to get more bookings?

I was wondering what other ways can restaurant achieve more reservations online without using costly PPC strategies?
I know that there are portals like OpenTable.com who charges £2 for every cover booked or ActiveBookings.co.uk that provides commission free bookings with £5 per month membership only. But are there any other ways of getting more clients?

    I think you should do more Local SEO, and do many local digital campaigns as possible such as Facebook Local, Instargram, G+ Business page...This way may increase your brand locally and get more visitors.

    Honestly I would use direct mail and the SRDS first. This would be faster to get more bookings... or reservations for the restaurant.

    Local marketing is good. But now A day there are some tricks for local client.
    You can send them notification on FB with discounts & new items.

    Establish your company using social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Having a Youtube channel is also a good idea. You can easily market yourself in social media sites by posting strategic and good content; something that will really stand out and has a potential to become viral. When your content is really good and inviting, which I think suits well in the niche you're in, you can market your restaurant without even spending much in marketing.

    Social Media Marketing.. There a lot of things you can do to promote your business through social media. By featuring your restaurant, you could attract new clients knowing that social media is filled with billions of people. I also advice to still promote your business using word of mouth because it's actually the most effective and most powerful. God bless!
