How to analyze/research this competition

Hi, here are the websites of a few of my top competitors:

Here are a few of my top competitors:

Daniel Kordan | Photo workshops
Lofoten Islands Norway | Photo Tours Hiking Travel Guides | 68north.com
Lofoten Tours
Home - Colby Brown Photography

I am in the process of attempting to analyze and research these competitors, in order to develop a competitive marketing strategy. One tool I was recommended to use is spyfu. However as you can see, the first three at least are 100% organic. Does that mean they don't advertise?

Please advice how you would go about analyzing these companies, figure out what they are doing, who their customers are, etc. etc. and developing a marketing strategy to compete for their customers, thanks!

This is not the place to advertise websites its call self promotion by stealth!

If not you have just informed the owners of what you are up to

I would think about what you are trying to achieve and dont be lazy by asking others to do the work for you.

  • I can't say that I see anywhere in this post where I asked anyone to do anything for me, except point me in what direction how to go about this. I apologize for having never performed market research before. Although I suspect there was a time in your life when you hadn't either. I was under the impression this place was designed, for learning how to do things we don't already know how to do. If these forums are not here for that, then what are they here for?

p.s. even a buffoon like me can see, however, these companies are all direct competitors with one another, which rather negates the possibility that this is a "self-promotion" stunt, and even if it was, it would be one hell of an idiotically targeted one, now wouldn't it? Or is this the landscape photography forum ?

He makes a good point. The links he has in his post are all competing websites.how does that benefit him?

PS...You do know that people are allowed to link to outside websites...right?

        Webby

I am not going to mention the product but a few moths ago there was a course where you could put up links in forum and ask for help now the stealth part was they are you sites to get traffic , there have been a few threads like this nuked

I was also pointing out that if he was not aware the threads do rate well in google so what he is trying the find out may back fire and they get more traffic would had been better to un hyperlink the links

Well...you may be right and wrong at the same time.

Upon looking at a similar thread he created not long ago, it may be that this sites are his clients and he his fulfilling a backlink order.

So...In the end, you may be right about him trying to be stealth.

Look at his other post and you will see what I am talking about.

I think you can use the Google Adwords tool to analyze their keywords. You would simply enter their urls and the keyword tool will bring up their keywords.

If I am wrong about this...I am sure someone will correct me.

The quickest way I found for keyword research was to right click on the website and scroll to page source now with a page of code just scroll up the top to find the keywords

      and as you wrote
If I am wrong about this...I am sure someone will correct me.

  • I have no idea what a backlink is, and I see no connection to these threads at all. What a suspicious bunch! That other thread is me trying to figure out if there is a reasonable way to gain the credibility of having a 100% related domain name in search results, while maintaining a more "general" site, because I want to offer tours to many places, but I want to try to negate the competitive edge of companies that specialize 100% in each of the places I am offering.

This thread, I am asking for help and advice on how to analyze and research my competition.

Where is there any connection in that?

By the way so far the only suggestion is looking at keywords/adwords. Surely there is a lot more to market research than this?

Check out the backlinks of these competitors. You can check out the websites form backlinks where these are doing submissions or work. This is the best way according to me.

When you link to the same sites in different threads - can give the impression of "link building".... If you don't know what a backlink is - you need to learn about it if you are going to build a site.

You may have no intention of promoting links - but it's a common problems on forums now so not surprising there would be questions.

    Elijah,

One of the ways to analyze your competition is to utilize a site like Similar Web.

They can tell you quite a bit about competing web sites. There is a free "light" analysis you can try on their web site by simply typing in the URL (address) of your competitor. If what you find is helpful, you can pay for their PRO version which gives you a lot more detail and will be more helpful in seeing what your competitors are up to.

    Good luck,

    Steve
