Ebay Partner Network Is Sticking It To Everybody

If you check the Ebay forums, most people stand to lose a lot of money on the new EPN click payment structure. Ebay is basically getting cheap traffic off their affiliates (in most cases 10-20 cents per click, where if they have to bid on adwords for similar niches they would certainly have to pay .50 to a few dollars per click to drive such targetted traffic to their site. This is either corporate greed at it's absolute worst or complete stupidity from the higher echelon ceo's in their marketing department. "We need more traffic to ebay, no problem, lets cut all of our affiliates earnings in half so they have to work twice as hard to send more traffic"

I know some people that make/made some good money with EPN but there are plenty of other places to make better money easier.

It's getting more and more difficult to earn with EPN these days.. they've really changed a lot of things in the past 2 years. Ah well.. just gotta move on.

I agree with Sheryl, I still consider it a great opportunity as people are more likely to click through to ebay and take an action than an unknown advertiser on adsense

      Hi syntheticrhyme,

I disagree for these reasons -

      a) don't use ebay forums for a reference for anything logical. Like most forums, the opinion there is swayed by whiners and trolls. Ebay forum in particular.

      b) the EPC figures have only been estimated, once, for a period of two weeks. It's actually impossible to guage accurately what this will mean long term (although it's logical to assume losses).

      c) EPN has always been getting 'cheap traffic' off it's affiliates. That's why people run an affiliate program (and deal with the extra hassle) - to increase their R.O.I.

Although I wouldn't put it in such strong terms as yourself ('corporate greed at it's worst') - because it's most definitely not(!), I do agree that affiliates will most likely see a cut in their income in the long term.

You'll also find that EPN (in a very roundabout way) also admit this. But there's no reason to be surprised - this is business. That's how it works.

Do you really think that ebay needs affiliates to get it's traffic?

They are an established brand. If you are going to put time and effort into a business that earns from EPN, then you should have the right mindset to start with - you are working for them, and you are only paid if they choose to pay you.

If this riles you (it should!), then take the positive lesson from it - start your OWN business, and if necessary get your own affiliates to do the donkey work for you.
