Slide Shows for Video...Easiest Way?

I need to make a video and show slides during it.

I need to manually choose when to change slides.

Slides will mainly be text, but I would like to be able to update real time, if I need to add something to one of them. It would be nice to be able to use an image for the background, I have also seen videos where bullet points get added along the way, Is that done but just having a lot of slides and each new slide adds a new bullet point?

I use Windows 7 and Camtasia to record my screen. Being able to use for webinar would be good to, if there is any difference, which I image not. Obviously I know nothing in regards to all this.

I would ideally prefer something simple to learn and inexpensive or free if there is anything decent free. But cost is not an issue, just me trying to be cheap.

Suggestions?

Why not just use a powerpoint presentation if you want to change slides manually and update in real time?

  • HI, I use Screen-Cast-O-Matic to make my videos, you can choose to just record the screen, your webcam or both.
If you use a powerpoint presentation you can manually change from slide to slide, and yes, you are right, the way you add bullet points is to have a series of identical slides with each one having an additional bullet point, that's the normal way of 'building' in powerpoint. (If you don't have Microsoft office, you can use 'open office' which is free and it has a powerpoint clone in it) Screencast-o-matic also has a pen tool so you can 'write' on your screen while you are talking, I've never used it though so I'm not sure how it works. You can download the software for free and play with it, it has "screencast-o-matic" on the bottom of all your videos if you use the free version but if you upgrade to the paid version (which is pretty cheap from memory) it goes away.

I have Camtasia already and open office.

The drawing with mouse feature is in Camtasia. I actually didn't know this is and searched youtube and saw how to enable it and just tried it. That is cool and actually something that could come in handy.

Is there a difference between powerpoint and powerpoint presentation?

So in open office, is there something equivalent to powerpoint presentation in it?

I also suggest Powerpoint for creating slideshow videos.

Powerpoint is the name of the software. A presentation is what the Powerpoint software makes, and can be exported as a ppt presentation to be played back in PowerPoint or as a video, as well as a number of other formats.

I've done a ton of videos using Powerpoint (or OpenOffice Impress) and Camtasia - the build of the bullets or any other elements on the presentation can be done in Powerpoint using Animation which simply allows you to animate the display of different parts of the presentation using a transition of your choice (fades in, slides in from left, etc...)

Within Camtasia, you have additional controls you can use such as zoom (where you want to zoom in on a specific part of the slide) and yes, you can control showing and highlighting (with a yellow highlight) the movement of your cursor during the presentation.

I just tried the presentation function in open office and it works fairly well. All I did was wing it and just started clicking stuff to try and figure it out.

I just need to figure out how to do a few thing and I think this will be OK. I saw no way to edit a slide on the fly, I could just manually step through the slides. But I was using my notebook and didn't have any additional monitors hooked up to it. Maybe I could edit it on another screen and the changes show up?
