Default A domaining question for fellow warriors

Hello,

I was trying to enter the domaining business for some time and decided to buy one domain just for domain selling. The thing is that I registered the domain HealthRuns.com without researching much about the possibilities of other combination's.

Now the problem is that I tried to register Healthrun.com and found out that it was a premium domain for sale (The price is somewhat near 2000$ if I remember correctly).

As a domainer do you think that I must buy that too? Will I be able to pull of just fine by selling the domain with the extra "s" at the end of the domain name?

Do you think my domain has commercial value if I develop it and then sell it?

Maybe. MIght be worth setting up a blog to talk about the health benefits of running. You can then decide how to monetorize it - clickbank, amazon and ebay are the obvious choices.

Of course it does. But that is going to take time. A few months ago I got excited about domaining, saw some stats on a few that had sold for upwards of 100K. My bubble was deflated when I did whois on these domains only to find out that they were on average, 5 years old and had thousands of backlinks pointing to them.

You can make money in domaining but know that it's a long haul commitment.

I was actually thinking about developing it into a general health site. Not sure if I want to develop it into a running health site.

I have experience with clickbank but not with ebay and amazon.

I can see that. 5 years??? That's too long for me to wait. Well then I guess building and flipping is the best thing to do.

You can't judge the value of a domain by the price it's listed at. I can show you a thousand different domain names that are listed for sale at over $2000 and never receive a single bid. In fact, the owners who are trying to cash in often let these expire rather than renew it for $8. If it's not worth renewing, how can it possibly be worth the asking price? But I digress.

There is absolutely no need as a domainer to buy both versions of the domain (singular and plural). Many names in my portfolio have other versions that are already owned. Doesn't matter. It WOULD matter to you if you were building a business of your own under this domain and plan to do some heavy marketing, or plan to use it for the long haul. In that case it's wise to get ahold of the different variations to prevent traffic leak.

Casi in point: I just sold a domain for 5 figures that was the plural form (just add "s") to a domain that was already owned.

Yes, you can add value by building a site on your domain name, but then the value is in the content, traffic and revenue, not the domain name itself.

Thanks for the great information. Do you think that building a general health site on this domain is worth the effort? Or should I split the general health topic into various sub sections and create sites individually?

From personal experience, healthruns.com and healthrun.com are domains with good quality.

These two domain names are typo-generic
They have mindshare quality
They are two words and short

On immediate commercial value, a domain that is not exposed will not be seen by buyers immediately. What you need to do is build a blog with the health niche and still add the site on domain and site brokers like sedo and sitepoint as well as afternic and see how it will perform.

Most domains you see sold for six figure changed hands severally before it was sold.

You can also send your domain to Ricklatona.com

Thanks for the valuable advice. I am currently planning to develope a sitearound the domain rather than just keep it parked with adsense on it (Adsense for domains).

Currently going to look for co-bloggers. Again thanks for the valuable advice!!!

I may then go on to Sedo to sell it in maybe one year or so

The first rule of domaining is that if someone is asking for a certain amount of money, it doesn't mean it is necessarily worth that much.

I've had people counter offer me with six figures for recently registered domains when I made them an offer. Domainers (or rookie domainers) tend to be a delusional bunch, waiting for that perfect opportunity to offload their **** domain for a million bucks.

In this case, HealthRun.com might be worth something since it can be used in the 'Marathon' and fitness sense. But I wouldn't pay more than $50 for it. The plural, however, is just about registration fee (or reg fee for short)

Thanks for clearing that up. So now the best thing to do is stop worrying about the domain value and start building a community right? After all gizmodo, boing boing, sugarre etc old little or no domain value....
