At the moment I have one of my main sites in a really competitive niche. I've done a load of content and created a stack of videos, articles etc... and the traffic is starting to come along.

However, my main plan with the site was to launch some resources for the particular niche... i'm halfway done and i've realised my skills are really not in the 'getting things finished' area...

So I need to get disciplined and get the first resource done.

Finding time to do everything I want to do!

I lost focus on a project when I get an email about some new thing or idea. Then I check it out and waste time. I still go back to my project, but I've wasted 10 minutes on email.

Times that by 5 or 6 times a day....and I've wasted a lot of time!

I bet thats the same for 90% of the people on here. We get bombarded with information all the time. Great looking offers, ways to shortcut processes, ways to automate hard work, ways to duplicate success and so on and so forth...

Any ideas how we stop getting distracted??

One problem a lot of people in IM have is allowing others to dictate what is important to their business and when it's important. You know what I mean...you get all these emails you've just got to check out or people are bugging you on ICQ.

For example, you know all those email lists you're subscribed to? Make a list and pick the top three that deliver real value to you and unsubscribe from the rest. Trust me...you're not going to miss out on anything important!

And then, no matter how much you want to, STOP subscribing to new ones. You can live without that free report or whatever - it's not going to make or break what you're doing.

Are you set up with AIM, Google Chat, ICQ and others? Drop them all and get one Skype account. If you've already got Skype, clean out your Contact List and ONLY allow people on it that are important to your business. And then set strict rules about when it's appropriate to chat.

Every morning, start out with this in mind - do something to make yourself money today. Then, do something that will make you money tomorrow (or sometime in the future). Do this before you open your email client or Skype or whatever.

Next, keep a simple, running list of things you need to do and prioritize it. Don't overwhelm yourself...keep it simple and stupid. You KNOW what you have to do, right?

Spend a little time each day improving your technical skills. Forgot trying to learn everything about IM - focus on the basics first, so that you can take advantage of technology, instead of blindly following what everyone is doing.

Schedule a set time that is for "Goofing Off", i.e.; exploring other opportunities or chatting, forums, etc., and STICK TO IT!

The only way you can do this is if YOU establish the mindset you want and stick to it.
Big Mike, this was definitely a good post! Basically, you're saying that we should get the *external* (and even internal) CLUTTER out from among us, so that we can *focus* on ONE thing...

That's something that I need to work on...FOCUS!

His post is ok, it has a good materialistic approach to it.

My problems aren't with concentrating... right now they are..

            1. I have a sore knee when sitting (really painful, if I sit down for more than 10minutes, takes another 10 standing up to relieve the pain).

            2. I have no friggin idea how to copywrite but I done it anyway.

            3. I've bought 3 email marketing courses recently - but still they are missing meat and potatoes (how do I capture an email address (especially from PPC - as a lot of my traffic is leaking from there) on my salespage. I don't know why the courses didn't explain this in detail).

My biggest problem is just building a darn website or mini-site. I have tons of PLR and products to use, resell and belong to countless membership websites. I understand how to get traffic and such.

Most resale items come with a minsite, I believe so it shouldn't be a problem for all products.

Also you can get some pretty good mini-sites designed for less than $97.

Focus - Call it ADD or whatever...I get distracted by everything and have a hard time staying on task for more than an hour

Writers Block - I HATE when this happens and I can't scrawl out an article that is more clever than what a 5th grader could write...then "presto" I'm back in the game!

Time - I have a hard time dividing my time between projects...like, I have my affiliate marketing stuff that I am starting to see returns for my effort. Then I have my own products that I'm working on but am not seeing any return from but I know that I should be working on them because I am hoping that these will be my bread and butter before long. PLUS I have like 4-5 different projects in various stages of "doneness" with none of them complete! Just a frustrating day I guess...

    Thanks my 2 cents though...

Amen on these.....spend my time developing lists and scheduling and then get side tracked or take on more and then start with the lists again. Then once I'm ready to go writer's block kicks in....so off to play a game to bring focus back...

    Right now, just one thing:

Friends (and my brother) crashing at my place! I haven't had time to sit down and work for the whole of last month and its literally driving me crazy...my brother's been living with me for the past one month now since he quit his job (he has money; he doesn't mooch off me, just shares my apartment).

What I really need right now is a solid two months of straight, hard work to push past the $100/day mark consistently, maybe get to $5k/month.

Writing qaulity articles will come with time practiced, I was always quite a good writer and passed my English Exams which is a godsend especially considering my current career path I have chosen.

My top tips for cranking out qaulity articles is to analyse what's on the front page for your chosen keywords. Find the value in their articles then expand on it by going to places like youtube and scrib.com to learn what you can add to write some super articles.

If it's the standard laws and rules of breaking up paragraphs and sections effectively, then I'm not sure what way I would go about that, as I haven't had that problem.

      Mark.

These are the main 3 which I not only struggle with but keep haunting me:
        Time
        Focus
        Advertising $$

For starters, there is way too much information out there and one needs absolute focus and clarity to sort through the noise.

Then there is the challenge of discovering what niche market/s to get into. Aligning that with personal interest and strength is critical - a simple concept yet can be illusive.

Lastly, interacting with other liked minded individual and having someone trustworthy to bounce off ideas and avoiding the land mines is key.

    Cheers,

Devoting time AWAY from the computer
Finishing a project before starting another
    My email inbox

Although I don't want to work a regular JOB, it seems it was a lot easier to turn it off and walk away from work when I was working for someone else. To put it another way, working at home has turned into living (and eating and sleeping) at work. The barriers that kept me sane when working for someone else are now gone.

I struggle with enough time and constant interruptions from my kids. Unfortunately the business isn't doing quite well enough to support the family, so my wife is out working to make up the difference.

Also, following through with ideas is another issue of mine, seems that my brain is great at coming up with new ones, but truth be told I am not the best at completing the tasks that I start out with.
