Did you try Bing for lead generation? It could be the game changer!

The core of digital marketing is to generate online leads. Pay Per Click tools like Google Adwords have been around a while now and are being used extensively by digital marketers and businesses who want to generate leads online. The reason why Adwords is so popular is because Google, as a search engine is highly popular.

But, have you ever realised that Google is not the only search engine in the world, and therefore, is not the only source for online lead generation?

I wanted to explore other options too, and realised one of the best alternatives to Google is Bing. So, here are some of my findings which I would like to share with you.

Google is powerful but Bing isn’t weak either

Okay! To make my point I want to present a few stats.

Out of the total number of internet searches, Google accounts for 80%. It means that around 80% of the users prefer using Google for searching the web.

Bing accounts for 10% and Yahoo too accounts for 10%. Yahoo uses Bing as its search engine and sells ads under the banner of Bing.
The other search options such as Ask.com and AOL barely exist with not even 1% share.

So, if you are advertising only on Google, you are actually missing out on the remaining 20%!

Google is the most preferred search engine which also means most of the marketers focus their lead generation efforts on Google. It means if you add Bing to your digital marketing and lead generation plan, you will be better placed than your competitors who use only Google.

Cost of advertising is lower on Bing

It’s true that cost of advertising through Google Adwords is much higher than Bing. Bing allows you a cheaper option.

If, instead of solely advertising on Google, you share your budget between Google and Bing. To test the waters, distribute the budget in the 80-20 ratio between the two search engines.

As the cost of Bing is lower, you will be able to generate more than 20% of your total leads from Bing by spending 20% of your budget.

Bing is used by a specific demography or type of users

Not all users use Google, which is evident from the 80% share of Google and 20% of Bing. However, there are certain types of customers, especially in their middle ages who prefer Bing over Google.

Before you begin with your advertisement campaign, do some research to identify which segments of your customers prefer Bing over Google, and it might require some effort, but it will give you a decent idea for not just the current campaign but also for the future.

Bing has a better conversion rate than Google

It’s a subjective matter and depends upon several variables such as the demography of your customers or the region where you belong. But, overall, the conversion rate of Bing is higher than Google.

As a digital marketer or a business that uses online marketing, you would know the importance of leads. In Pay Per Click models, if your clicks aren’t getting converted to leads, then it could be highly counterproductive.

You will keep pouring your money into the advertisements as there would be more and more clicks. However, unless these clicks translate into genuine leads where the customers are willing to buy your product or avail your service, more clicks will only be a loss making proposition.

It is where Bing is better than Google. And, it’s primarily because of the two reasons.

Firstly, Bing has less users which means there would be lower frivolous clicks like on Google where anybody and everybody uses the search engines. Several of them click on ads but then don’t even look at them seriously. On Bing, since the number of users is low, it also means there would be fewer people killing their time and most of the users mean business. It gives a better click to lead conversion.

Secondly, the number of advertisers on Bing is also much lower than Google. Thus, the ads displayed on Bing is lower which means users will be more curious of the ads on Bing than on Google where they appear with more frequency.

These are some of the factors that I believe are relevant when it comes to considering Bing as an option for lead generation. Google might get you a larger market and it might get you more clicks, but Bing can get you more leads in proportion to the clicks as well as more clicks in proportion to the cost.

In a nutshell, the ROI from Bing is better than Google. However, I would suggest that instead of completely opting for Bing, you need to distribute your budget. Google should continue to remain your preferred option and you must do some research before opting for Bing.

With the right Google and Bing combination and a little more focus towards Bing, you can optimise your marketing efforts, make them more efficient and save and make more money.
I would like to request other forum members to give their opinion on the usefulness of Bing. It will be helpful to know your opinion and learn from your insights.
