A Website is Plagiarizing Content From My Website. What Should I Do?

A less popular website has been plagiarizing articles published in my website, and it's very annoying to see our hard work plagiarized in his site. What should we do to take action against the owner of the site that's plagiarizing? Please advise.

Thanks in advance

Send them and their host a DMCA take down notice to start.

How are they plagiarizing you? Copying your entire articles? Or are they rewriting them? If they're copying word-for-word it will be pretty easy to handle. If they're rewriting or writing similar content after you, it will probably be much more difficult.

Yes, they are copy/pasting a lot of the lines and titles, as well as using photoshopped images one of our writers modified.

Sorry this is happening to you. Definitely send them a DMCA notice. You can also send one to their Web hosting company (find it using Whois). This means if they don't take it down, their website will get yanked.

Do a URL whois, you'll find their host abuse address.

Contact their host, and let them know that if the content isn't taken down within 72 hours, that you'll file a DMCA complaint.

Refresh their site 72 hours later, and it shall be vanquished. If not, proceed with the complaint.

Interesting ? and um, not so good someone is stealing your work and that of your colleagues.

Another option is if you have a WP site to purchase the Covert Copy Traffic plugin and install and set the settings that that if they copy i.e. 5+ words, especially articles etc. then your website will be referenced for their visitors to read the whole article etc. on your website.

Sometimes if you can't beat them, create a strategy to get the most out of it and get referenced.

May not stop them copying and pasting into a Word document and then copying from the Word document to their site; however, if they're as lazy as what it appears they'll soon get the message that it's not worth copying your stuff as you will be fully referenced and their visitors will be redirected via the link you include in the plugin settings back to your site.

Won't stop downloading images etc. however might give them pause to copy titles and article content etc.

Anyway this is my 2 cents worth. Hope it assists. With my own sites I've included copying is a form of flattery, please feel free to review the whole article at ......

Add CC: to any ad networks or affiliate programs they're using. Maybe I sound vindictive, but if I catch someone stealing from me, I want them to HURT.

You can submit a DMCA to their host, it'll be taken down, most likely. If not, then you're going to be stuck.

You should know, Google knows who posted it first, making the other person in the wrong, so it shouldn't hurt your SEO at all, but I do understand how it feels when someone deleted, copy and pastes and/or takes your work....
