Default What's the best way to ping your blog posts?

Hi everyone, I am wondering if you can help me as I am starting to do more blog content and trying to get more traffic to my blog. I went to pingoat.com and found out that it was no longer working.

Could anyone share the way you can ping your blogs in 2009?

I would also be interested to know if their are services that do this as well. thank you.

Inside this website it recommends using it in wordpress, what if you don't have a word press blog? I have used onlywire.com and i think it's a pretty good resource in the past.

I just started a wordpress blog and im trying to find where to input all of these things to ping it automatically im guessing?

I'm just use pingomatic. Never used any other service. If your blog is a wordpress blog I think it will handle the ping for you automatically each time you update.

Or try this:

Thank you very much for this info, I have marketed online for a while and not really did much blogging, now im learning more about blogs, and i can see that if word press pings all by itself, then i shouldn't have to ping right. So learning more about blogs is a good thing yeah.
thank you

You'll also find that the automatic pinging feature for Wordpress tends to be overzealous and it will ping every time you make a minor edit to a post.

To prevent this, I suggest installing Maxblog Press's Ping Optimizer, which is a free plugin. This allows you to specify how often you want the blog to ping the services. By controlling this you won't annoy the services and get banned by them for excessive pinging.

You might also want to get RSSbot which has a built-in pinging feature, as well as a list of RSS directories that it will submit your RSS feed to for backlinks. This is a low cost program by Big Mike and there is currently a promotion available which enables you to get it for about half the normal price. Check the WSOs for this or send me a PM if you need a link.

Yeah..if it's a Wordpress, it will ping automatically everytime you post. However, I'm afraid adding gigantic ping list to it is not a proper way to do it.

If you're pinging other sites than a self hosted Wordpress, I only know of
Pingomatic, Pingoat and Kping. I'm looking for more alternative too ..

Does not make any sense to think I can get banned for too many pinging. Otherwise i'll BAN all my competitors > pinging them all day long.

There must be a way for the feed directories to define a daily limit to each site.

They - the directories - provide the limit, NOT WE.

Unlike 3rd party services like Pingomatic, these pings are send directly from your own blog. So, it makes sense to me and your point is valid if you're referring to 3rd party pinging services.

Exactly, you will not get banned from over zealous pinging, that is just nonsense and bad advice to boot. The only thing that happens is that your efforts become redundant.

For pinging services, Pingomatic is easy to use.

I got a load of these ones straight from the source. Check it out;

List of Ping Services

Ping services allow you to automatically notify blog directories and search engines that your blog has been updated. The bigger your ping list the higher the chances of receiving traffic from those sources, so check out the list below and include it on your blog (Wordpress users can modify their ping list on the Control Panel, then Options, then Writing).
