Everyone Wants To "Make Money On The Internet..."

Look, I get it.

You want to make some extra income. Things are tight. The economy is bad. Maybe you're unemployed. And if you're working, your company is asking more of you and paying you less. You're struggling to make ends meet.

I see dozens of questions from those new to the Internet every week.

It seems that the majority are under the impression that making money online is easy. And there are lots of "gurus" out there selling systems that might give you the impression in their sales copy that if you buy their thing the money will just come pouring in.

Now, while leverage and scaling are the way to build a successful business, any way you slice it, it's WORK. One of my mentors recently opined that the most successful people who made their livings online were more like factory workers going to work with a lunch pail.

It's not all limelight, easy money, and fast cars.

When I first started hanging out on Warrior Forum with absolutely no knowledge, I got a leg up from a lot of good people and I want to pay it forward.

So, I am going to GIVE you the million dollar information. I'm going to give you right here what people pay hundreds (and even thousands) of dollars for right here in the public forum in answer to your questions. If you want to make it online, this is the process. Period.

1. PICK A PROFITABLE NICHE. First: determine what interests you. It will be difficult to make money if you are just plodding along at something that doesn't interest you. That's what you do at work and that's the place you're trying to get AWAY from. So, don't just pick a niche because you think it will make you a lot of money. Pick a niche because it genuinely interests you. Make a list of your interests. THEN, consider how you can make money at them. To do this, go to Google and type in your hobby or passion. Say it's "golf" or "dogs" Whatever, type it into the search box. Look at the sponsored links above and to the right of the organic listings. People are paying money for those sponsored links. What are they selling? How are they profiting from the niche you're interested in? Can YOU make money in the same way? Are they selling a physical product? A service? What are they doing? Get your own creative juices flowing. HINT: If you put your hobby or passion in and there is very little in the sponsored links, then chances are it's not a big money-maker. You need to focus on a niche that can make you money. Otherwise, it's just a hobby or charity and not a business.

2. DEVELOP YOUR OWN PRODUCT. Okay, once you have picked your niche, create a product. You're going to create a 10 to 50 page report on the topic of your selected niche. Turn it into a .PDF. You MUST have a product. It may be your main product or it may be an entry product to get people onto your list. Don't overthink this. Get a product. Write it, have it written for you, get a PLR (private label rights) product. Whatever. Just get it done. You have one week. GO!

3. CREATE YOUR SALES COPY. You must develop a killer sales letter. Think back to the programs you have signed up for. Why did you sign up HERE? You read some awesome sales copy. It pushed your emotional hot buttons. Number one thing to do. If you want to be successful online, you NEED to know how to write killer sales copy that causes people to hit "BUY NOW!" This is even more important and technical than the creation of your product. Get it right and you will be successful.

4. SET UP YOUR WEBSITE AND AUTOMATED SYSTEM. You need your squeeze page and setup in JVZoo, or Clickbank, or whatever affiliate platform you have chosen to use to handle the sales of your product. This might be a simple one item funnel, OR it might be an entire funnel with multiple upsells, one-time-offers, downsells, etc... Remember, the NUMBER ONE GOAL is NOT to make a sale, it's to GET THE CUSTOMER ON YOUR MAILING LIST!!! Do not lose sight of this. Your #1 goal is to build a HUGE mailing list of BUYERS. (NOTE: This is the technical part where people get stuck in the weeds. Don't get stuck. Power through it.)

5a. DEVELOP YOUR LIST OF AFFILIATES. You need affiliates to sell your product. Before your big launch, get as many affiliates on board and ready to promote your product to their mailing lists. Spend quality time focusing on getting AFFILIATES to drive MASSIVE traffic to your site!!! Use Muncheye.com, use your existing list, join membership groups, make phone calls, create fun contests, get the word out.

5b. SEND MASSIVE, TARGETED, INEXPENSIVE TRAFFIC TO YOUR SITE. If you can't drive traffic to your offer, you're finished before you even get out of the gate. If you spend more for that traffic than you make selling your product you're losing money. You need an inexpensive system for getting red hot, ready-to-buy, targeted traffic. And you need LOTS of it... (Hint: Figure this out and you're golden!)

6. LAUNCH YOUR PRODUCT. On the appointed day....BLAST OFF!

7. DEVELOP BACK END PRODUCTS. THIS is where you make your money. You need a combination of low-ticket, medium-priced, and then HIGH TICKET items to sell your customers. So, maybe it's a $9.97 product > $17 product > $47 product > $197 product > $397 product > $1,997 product. Maybe somewhere in there is a membership site that's like $37 per month. This is called a "continuity program" and without it, you'll have a difficult time making a regular income online. (That alone was worth hundreds of dollars. I hope you picked up on that tidbit.)

8. CONTINUE STEPS 2 THROUGH 7. Over and over and over again. Maybe once per month or every two months. Build your sales funnel and build your LIST!!! (Remember the saying, "The money is in the list!")

9. MARKET TO YOUR LIST!!! Between launches of your own products, continue to market to your list. Provide them with a combination of high value free information that keeps them interested and engaged. At least 3 times per week send them a quality offer for a product that you believe in with your affiliate link. As your list grows, you will make more money from these mailings. So, you see you alternate between product CREATOR and AFFILIATE to promote others' products. Your willingness to reciprocate will create good will and help you in getting others to help with your own launches. In fact, your product's #1 job is to BUILD YOUR LIST. (Did I mention that your #1 marketing priority is building your list?)

10. BUILD FUNNEL AFTER FUNNEL AFTER FUNNEL! Okay, so once you have one successful sales funnel, go work on another one in a DIFFERENT niche. Or a different sub-niche. When you have several good funnels built your leads will be coming in on auto-pilot. It will take a minimum amount of effort to keep all of the balls spinning in the air. You will have attained SUCCESS!

Some of these steps require more technical understanding than others.

You are in the right place. Your fellow entrepreneurs on this site will be more than happy to help you move forward on your journey. Build relationships here with your fellow travelers on the Internet success journey.

Study the material here. Take advantage of the great tools.

Excellent tutorial! The problem is that most people are not willing to do that much work to reach success.

Many people will read this thread and just move on and not implement this system.

Instead they will just move on to the next shiny object and purchase another worthless product.

Yes, that's just the thing! Everyone who really wants to make money online are typically lazy people (no offence if you're not) but in my experience, people tend to expect results early on in the journey and give up. No dedication means no success in my eyes.

Most people assume that regardless of what your web site is regarding, if you simply place AdSense banners thereon, you'll expertise a gradual flow of financial gain from that moment on.
    1) They analysis what keywords tend to possess the best CPC (the quantity of cash they get per click). as an example, insurance corporations generally pay the maximum amount as $50 for a click.

    2) They originated an internet site specifically optimized for such keywords. This web site usually contains little helpful info (it is simply a really generic description of the subject) and is written in such how that a visitant really desires to search out additional info on the topic elsewhere when finishing reading the web site.

    3) They use no matter technique they'll to create their web site score higher in search engines, and that they pay plenty of your time doing that.

    4) They add plenty of sharply positioned AdSense units to the websiteâ€"units that by artificial means break the flow of text and confirm you notice them albeit you don’t wish to.

Now, you see however this overwhelming system works. Say you're fascinated by obtaining insurance. You sort some connected search question into Google and click on on a number of the primary few results. you begin reading, but you feel that you are not really getting much useful information. Then your eye catches a link that looks like it could provide some further insight. Before you even realize that it is an ad, you click on the link, and the owner of the page gets, say, $2 (because it was in a very high-paying field).

    "most people"
    "many people"
    "some people"

Doesn't matter. Anyone reading this has a choice to read and ignore - whine "too hard", post a silly one liner....or TAKE the advice and DO SOMETHING for themselves.

That may be the hardest thing about "make money on the internet" - it's up to YOU. You do what is required or you don't..you do it until it works or you give up.

Good article - enough to help people get started if they are ready.

I'm just getting started in the affiliate business and I understand that its work. Its a job and requires effort and hours put into it to get something back. My question is do we NEED to create a product of our own? Is it possible to make a living just by promoting products vs creating and selling them?

      Hey Nick,

It is certainly possible to become a "super affiliate" and make great money without ever creating a product. There are plenty of people who do it, and many different systems for generating income.

However.....in my opinion....it's a lot harder to do it without your own product.

Even if you can make a good living without creating a product, your business will be even MORE powerful if you add your own product to build your personal mailing list.

And think about this...How can you learn to become a super affiliate? Are there courses teaching you to be a super affiliate?

The people who ARE the top super affiliates, are those who also TEACH you about being a super affiliate. They do this by SELLING you a course, right?

So, you want to watch what the gurus DO, not just what they say.

Your product doesn't have to be fancy. Remember, the main thing is building your list. Your product has to deliver VALUE and your sales letter has to hit your prospect's emotional hot buttons.

Remember, people buy because of emotions and justify their emotional purchases with logic.

      All the best,

      Pat

Just thought I'd point out the obvious, (a skill I excel at) you can sell other people's products and build a personal list. Didn't this become common place for affiliates back in 2012?

Building your own product can actually hurt your business. If managed properly, having your own brand, product, etc. can certainly make you a heck of a lot more money. But that really comes from you getting the army of affiliates to sell for you. So absolutely. But...and its a big butt: Do you have the tools, skills, and desire to support that product? Do you have the time, resources, and people to keep something like that continually?

This is where I disagree, maybe. Yes, your product doesn't have to be fancy. Or perfect. Absolutely. But it had better be GOOD. It is a reflection of you. How your audience will perceive you can be drastically affected by what you offer them. There's a lot more work that goes into creating and sustaining your own product than you have let on in your comments in this thread.

Nickpickle05, it's the same difference that is between $100 and $1000. Yes, it is possible to make money selling other people's products as an affiliate.

But think about this. When you are an affiliate promoting another company, and when you redirect a person to the landing page of that company's product and they purchase that product, what do you get?

You'll say you get a commision, right? But who gets the customer for life? The company selling the product. Once they get the customer's email address, they sell more and more to them, making thousands of dollars in the process, while it was you who got them the customer for a little commision.

This explains why some companies are even willing to offer 90% or 100% commissions to affiliates. Because they know real money is not made in the first sale. It's made in next and next to next sales. So it's really important to have your own products.

    Patrick,

This is a well thought out overview of a process that can work in many different niches. Will it be enough? Yes, for a few people who are self-starters and willing to learn the ropes (research, study, follow the guidance of others).

Unfortunately, the overview will not be enough for most people.

After working in the field of small business development my whole career, I have learned that true entrepreneurs, the people most suited to creating and running a business, are people that focus on the smallest of details (or hire others that do) and master them. If they don't know how to do something, they research and learn and discover until they get it down right. Smart business creators are also persistent to a T and they are finishers. They see things through to the end and work like a dog to overcome any obstacles in their way. Most people, the average person, moves on to something else way before a true entrepreneur would.

Small online business can be profitable for anyone . . . but . . . that person has to be willing to figure out and accomplish all the details. That's where most people don't do well.

Here's the problem with overviews (a few examples from your post):

    - It's great to tell someone, as you did, "You must develop a killer sales letter." But just how does one go about doing that? Those are the details and that is where most people fail.

    - It's true that you should have your own product, as you said, "once you have picked your niche, create a product." Is that enough guidance for most people? Is it enough to tell someone to write a short report and turn it into a PDF? There are examples of this all over the Internet that just do not sell. It has to be something that is in demand, very valuable, timely, etc. You overview is right, but the details are lacking.

    - You are very right that a new business owner needs to get traffic. Here's what you said: "You need an inexpensive system for getting red hot, ready-to-buy, targeted traffic. And you need LOTS of it" No one would argue with your advice, but is it enough? Have you shared the details about how you do just what your advising?

You see, I agree with your post, but most people need to be led by the hand. They don't "stick with it" long enough to figure out all the details on their own. They are not willing to spend months (sometimes years) digging into all the details to learn this stuff on their own.

So they hire mentors, they buy into systems, they rely on courses and ebooks to do their "digging" for them. Does that work? Occasionally, for the right kind of persistent person. But more often than not, people see the work that is required (in most honest systems) and can't be bothered with doing everything that is necessary to be successful.

So thank you for the overiew; but IMO it's not going to be enough for most people that try to follow what you say.

      Hey Steve,

All great points. Thanks for your insights. I see you often on Warrior Forum and have immense respect for you.

Of course, you are correct. This post is certainly lacking details. It is impossible to provide such details in just a few paragraphs in the forum here. However, someone who has that real entrepreneurial spirit (which you so accurately observed is necessary for success) will keep pulling the string and seek out the details.

Hopefully this will help someone along on their journey.

      All the best,

      @Steve,

You've articulated what I've always thought about this since I got started. There's so much 'advice' out there, but there are DAMNED FEW DETAILS.

As an example I've been creating a series of technology project step lists designed to help people who are interested in whatever subject I'm working on go from start to finish in ONE place. When I got started building these I searched the web only to find that one site had part of the equation and a YouTube video had a small part and some obscure book at the library had the rest. The exact same thing happened when it came time to start my blogs and selling my kindle books.

The information IS out there, but by the time you find and put it all together you're flat exhausted. The article, although it does contains some good starting points is more of the same. Details are what make businesses like this fail or succeed. I have a sneaky suspicion that if more people knew the intimate details one of two things would happen. They would quit right away without wasting precious time when they realize this isn't for them, or more people would succeed much quicker.

People who are given to following step lists or detailed diagrams tend to build puzzles, servers, or marketing campaigns (with their own personal spin of course) much faster than people who are given vague instructions and then encouraged to 'sally forth'.

I guess if everyone gave all of the details the level of competition might skyrocket, but I believe that would produce even better companies. People do their best when they realize that their competition is just waiting for them to crash and burn.

I do wish that more relevant and actionable details were available. Then there might be more successful people to help bring the 'newbies' along when they show up.

One of the greatest posts I have seen on WF this month!

This is really some good practical Step-by-Step methods to make some good money online and build a very profitable online business.

There are some great point outlined above, but the most important step is the first step ''Pick A Profitable Niche'' ... When people get this wrong - everything else they do will just be a waste of their time - So I believe finding a profitable niche that you are passionate about is the first step to success in making money online,

Thank you again for this great post

Would just add get some real testimonials both before launch and during.

Also on the rewriting PLR that would not be my personal choice but just try to really over deliver on value in any way you can. Not so much quantity but quality. Will your offer truly make a difference in someone's life or will it just be some more rehashed B.S. that keeps people going in circles. That kinda matters I hope.

For example the Fellow Warrior who created a WSO about Adult Coloring Books. He did not originate that trend he just saw it catching fire and created a cool resource on that topic. He saw the opportunity. He did not read an eBook that told him to create an ebook on Adult Coloring books he saw the opportunity and took action on it.

But becoming a Product Creator has many more benefits.

The relationship with your customers, affiliates, JV partners, other product owners etc. It can really open your eyes and grow your business.

Perfectly summed up in a nutshell. Pay attention to two things mainly... Setting up a sales funnel and copywriting for your sales/opt in pages. You're never to old to learn some new copywriting skills... And even a simple sales funnel is the difference in selling one item here and there versus building a real online income. My advice... Focus on those two things.

I actually thought the same thing when I first started years ago. Copywriting is the art (and, yes, I'd argue it's an art) of writing sales copy. Sales copy is the same thing as sales letters. In the WSO section, the main WSO post (you know, the post that's trying to sell you something) is the sales letter/copy.

    @DigitalListings,

    Agreed, this CAN be challenging.

The thing is, you need to think outside the box and develop a system that will do exactly that.

If you can't drive traffic to your offer, you're finished before you ever start.

Imagine if brick and mortar businesses were more like the Internet....
    • Imagine a mall 25 stories that's about 37 miles wide and 47 miles long--roughly the size of the entire state of Rhode Island.
    • Inside the mall is a matrix of 8 foot by 12 foot booths.
    • Rent is $50 per year, so it's easy to get a space.
    • There are tens of millions of shop owners.
    • The mall has a centralized directory and the richest shop owners pay to grab all of the top spaces. The rest of the directory is ordered by an algorithm determined by the directory owners based on their own determination of what shoppers want to see.

How on earth would you attract clientele to your specific shop? What would differentiate you? How would a new shop owner get noticed by the directory?

This, my friend, is what you are up against in the online world.

There are nearly one billion websites today.

Everyone gets a URL and a computer monitor-sized footprint for a "store."

It is relatively inexpensive to gain access and start your own online business.

Search engines ("directories") are privately owned and limit your visibility on the web.

The problem with trying to get "ranked" by search engines is that it takes time to get to the top of the search engine directories. It takes very specialized knowledge and the rules are constantly changing. A website that consistently ranks on the top pages can get wiped out overnight when an algorithm changes.

Let's be perfectly clear on the problem of making a living (or any money at all for that matter) online...

Your problem is not one of capitalization. Neither does your success depend on the cool factor of your website (if that was true Craigslist would be out of business). Success online does not depend on fancy graphics, a better system, a slick website, or your payment system.

Do you really want to know why businesses fail? There is only one, one reason only, why businesses fail to make money whether online or offline.

    That reason is...

    Lack of customers

Solve this problem and you're golden!

    Mindset is key.

"Oh, I tried to this system for a couple of hours and it didn't work... I'm buying this other program and if it doesn't work, I QUIT!"

"I sent out one email to my list and I didn't get any sales... I'm buying this other program and if it doesn't work, I QUIT!"

"I signed up for a CPA network and got rejected... I MUST BE A LOSER!" )

"I put a video on my website yesterday because everyone says it'll increase conversions, and I got no sales from my 21 visitors... I'm buying this other program and if it doesn't work, I QUIT!"

Change your mindset and you can begin seeing the light.

Do you truly want to have your own business online? Do you understand that this IS a business? Are you willing to invest into the necessary time, money, and learning? Are you willing to make mistakes, but learn from them?

Never quit, never settle, put in hard work, make mistakes, stop buying every new shiny product, learn, grow, reinvest, and then rinse and repeat.

    Awesome post Patrick!

      :
well this a great post. However I would like to be the first one to underline some key elements here.

but why would i do that?

well no matter where you are reading this, in the home, airport, toilet, or neighbours house, its very very powerful.

Realise as a marketer, you are going to kok somethings up and make some mistakes, but hey that is ok. we all make mistakes. But never ever give up. no matter what anyone says or thinks, if you want this, and this is your passion, keep going....

for some it takes months, for some years, and when you find out what works, like building a list, and doing that sort of thing you realise that things just get EASIER....so i would like to say the NEVER GIVE UP is the best and most important thing you can do.

I use to make $0 online until I got a coach and I saw the light, now I am doing huge numbers, a slow day is like $500 a day. LOL.

so i could have gave up, but what I did, was find someone making the income I wanted, and followed him. PROBLEM solved.

I've been making money online full time now for about 6 years.

I'd say that the biggest hurdle most people run into (and the main issue I had when first getting into it) when trying to make money online is that get "shiny object" syndrome.

They buy a training product and fail to follow through with it before finding another training product .... and the cycle goes on.

I can talk from experience - I was a serial "shiny object" distractor. I'd always get part way through some training program I'd bought when I'd stumble across something else, buy it and forget the first thing I was working on.

I'm a bit more disciplined these days (you have to be in this game) and that would probably be the one thing I'd advise someone who's having trouble....... work on your discipline and follow through with what you start.

Thank you Patrick for your insight and experience. I'd much rather "thank" you via the forum like 18 others have, but can't for the life of me, find the button to do so. And here I thought I was tech-savvy. But ya know, once I get my cursor over that sucker, I'll remember it for the rest of my life, because of the "great pains" I'm going through to find it.

Believe that mentality will serve anyone well, especially if they are going into a new project like starting an online business. No course or teacher like the principal of the school of hard knocks.

      yup work it out.

I have reccuring income, as you can be out on the beach, shopping and money comes in automatically.

so say a price point will be $9 usd, a point where people can say LOL, i want in that is so cheap.

But then, you make the recurring $9 per month, and then you get 1000 members, and because $9 you get a high stick rate, and conversions are through the roof, then what you do is the MATH....

$9 x 1000 members, [monthly] = .... wait for it..... $9000 USD per month, every month!

so when you work this sort of stuff, out, you will never ever need a JOB again.

Recurring income = VERY POWERFUL. Its residual and turnovers can be huge.

But of course, most of the time, things are easily said than done. The steps above are just your initial guide to building your own affiliate empire. What counts the most is how you apply those steps then experiment with a lot more strategies and tools that you've learned as you go with the process.

Nice post -- just lacking detailed description of the "how" to accomplish these steps -- topics for another post.
Despite most marketers believing that the IM money is in the email list, the real element of success is conversion of the traffic into sales. And this requires building valuable relationships over time with the list. Success equals traffic PLUS conversions.

Reason is our way of thinking, most people are closed minded to opportunities, it's easy to say NO that saying HOW! it really is seldom to hear people to ask HOW!why because simply they are afraid of the risk and they want to be kept in their own comfort zone, I hope everyone will agree that all of us here have not yet even scratch the surface of our full talent and ability other's never had a chance to see what their potentials are and that is because all of them simply say NO!

I agree with most of your points and there was a lot of value in there. Only the following part is something I disagree with:

Write it, have it written for you, get a PLR (private label rights) product. Whatever. Just get it done. You have one week. GO!
This is how all these shitty products are born. I literally know people who have zero experience or knowledge in a field, then they browse around the web and turn what they read on Wikipedia and YouTube into a paid infoproduct. If you are great at marketing you can still make money with that of course, but personally I could never sell a high priced product and proclaiming its breathtaking when I know its just copy and pasted shit. To me this is not really a legit business model.

Don't wanna sound offensive, you have by no means said that it needs to be that way. The only thing that bothered me was the "10-50 pages" and "one week. GO!" part.

The principles here are priceless and never going away. But as Steve mentioned, it's the processes that are the hard part. The head down grinding it, day in day out. Consistently moving in the right direction and not getting sidetracked. There's so many factors to take into account. Still, I would say you could have the 10 point list above as a kind of - sit back and look at the big picture. The strategy outline.
You'll still need the tactics to go with it though.

SYSTEM are good, and are not SCAMS....people FAIL!!! simpel as that.

if you are not building leads every day, following up, and have a sales funnel in place, that is like going to a bar without money. What are you going to do!??

ALso gwilfo1988, above said. You need to work your tits off, and and FOCUS on one or two things.

Most days people are trying to do so many things, and 8 businesses at once, and then when they get no results, they cry home to mumma. HOw are you going to get results doing 8 biz opps at once.

Focus on one or two and consume 2/3 of your day getting traffic to the optin page and watch how you life will change.
